Hello wonderful ladies of HIVE!
I trust you're all doing great. The gift of life is indeed a precious one.
I'm so happy to participate in this week's contest. Thank you, @saffisara, for this thought-provoking question.
Language is an essential tool in human existence because it is the primary means through which people interact and express themselves.
Without language, there would be no communication — and where there is no communication, things inevitably fall apart.
Now, let me answer the questions asked:
How many languages do you speak?
I can speak three Nigerian languages: Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba, as well as one foreign language — English, which is also the official language of my country, Nigeria.
You might be wondering, "How is that possible?"
Igbo is my native language, as both of my parents are from the eastern part of Nigeria where Igbo is predominantly spoken.
The other languages — Hausa, Yoruba, and English — I learned through travel and education.
My father is a pastor whose work requires him to move frequently, so we never had a permanent place of residence.
As a result, I had the opportunity to live in various regions of Nigeria, which allowed me to learn Hausa and Yoruba.
Although I speak Yoruba more fluently than Hausa.
Additionally, I enjoy learning about other people's cultures, and language is a big part of that.
I’ve come to realize that to communicate effectively, one must speak a language the other person understands.
That’s why, whenever I move to a new place, I make it a priority to learn the local language.
Which language would you like to learn more than anything?
The language I’m most interested in learning is French. I love the sound and elegance of the language.
Whenever I hear people speak French, I often wish I could speak it too.
I’m particularly interested in learning it so I can communicate with people from French-speaking countries such as Cameroon, Togo, and France.
That way, if I ever find myself in any of those countries, language won't be a barrier.
Thank you for reading and engaging with my post! 💕
