This week's question by @chacald.dcymt in week #298 of the @ladiesofhive community, brought back memories of what just happened recently in my area.
A four-story building collapsed. During the rescue, some good individuals came to save the children that were trapped inside. While one of the passers by who came to help was trying to rescue a child that he saw trapped, a stone fell from the building and hit him. The health officials tried to revive him, but he passed away.
Hmmmmm, at that particular moment, I came to realise that rescuers risk their own lives just to save others. That one death was more painful than any other death that was recorded that day. Now tell me, why would they not need proper care?
If we don’t look after the people who save others, who will?
Natural disasters are unforseen occurrences, which are never prepared for. And when it happens, it claims lives like never before, it destroys hospitals, render people homeless and cut off power and water supply.
This was exactly the case of Venezuela earthquake that happened on the 24th of June 2026. It was recorded as two powerful quakes that struck North Central Venezuela just 39 seconds apart. The second that struck was said to be the strongest in over a century. As of July 11th, according to the latest official information, 4,100 person's were recorded dead and 16,700 were injured, while thousands were still missing and homeless.
And there are rescuers who risk their lives to pull children from rubble and the ones who keeps delivering food, water and medicine without resting to the victims.
If I was given the opportunity to help those who saved the lives of the children and those who never get tired of getting aid to the survivors. I would do something special for these people.
First, I would take good care of them.
These people work day and night. They spend hours pulling children from rubble. They bring food, water, and medicine for these children. But who takes care of them? So, I would make sure they get enough food, proper rest, medical care, and someone to talk to, because experience like that, will definitely affect their mental health.
Second, I would give them the necessary tools they will need to carry out their rescue work. Things like fuel, safety tools and money. I would provide those things they need so they can keep saving lives without struggling.
Third, I would honor them.
I would make headlines News with their stories. I would share their stories to the point that people would know their names and what they did. I would also encourage the children and families they helped to give them thank you letters.
I just wish that all the rescuers and aid workers will have the opportunity to read all these post and see how special and honoured they are for risking their lives to save and aid those children.
To all the rescuers and aid workers, I say a very big thank you. You are all brave and loved, and you all deserve to be cared for too.
I will continue to pray for all Venezuelans who witnessed this awful experience. Those who lost their loved ones, or their family member's, may our God of all comforts continue to comfort them as their lives changed within a twinkle of an eye. May they find the strength they need to heal and rebuild.
