Have you ever wanted to own a business? If so, what is it? And if resources (money, talent, skills, people, etc.) weren't an issue, would you have started it?
Business has always been in my veins, it runs in my DNA, it's who I am, who I have always been. I love the idea of building my own thing, that makes me a cool source of income. Creating value, solving problems somewhere and getting paid for it is thrilling. Be the boss and employ people to work with me. Hopefully I'll be a cool boss lol.
Also, I wanted a business that can at the same time give me a chance to be present in the life of my family, especially my kids. I never wanted something that would be too time demanding. So after my NYSc I ventured into a honey retail business, although it took me about two years to build a solid customer base, it was a profitable venture for me. Of course, that wasn't my first main business, the first one was a drink retail store which failed miserably due to my inexperience. Well, I disregarded one rule of starting a business, which is to learn the basics before investing your money and I paid dearly for it.
I put the lesson from the failed drink venture into my new honey business and everything turns out great haha.
Four years ago after my wedding I had to join my husband in another state. Sourcing the honey from the local farmers like I used to become difficult and we never planned on staying long here, which made me not want to start the business and then had to relocate within a short period of time.
But by the end of first quarter this year we planned on moving to either another state or to a place that is more business oriented than our current location. When this happens I can't wait to go back to the business world. This time not going into the honey business but something more big, and long term.
I have everything planned out, I'm only waiting for our move to kickoff things. I love the idea of running my own business, yes it comes with its risks and challenges but with everything I have learned so far, I will still choose business rather than getting a job. I'm working towards something that will not require my 100 percent presence to run smoothly, this way I can prioritize my family and still have a successful and profitable business to call my own.
How about you, are you a business minded fellow? What are you planning to go into, join us on this week's Ladies of the hive contest and share it with us
