Happy new week, Ladies of Hive! I hope we’re all in good spirits. This week, I decided to participate in the second contest. I’m not sure if anyone else relates to my experience, but I’d love to share my thoughts so I don’t feel alone. Smiles! Thanks for reading.
I’d like to talk about my background and how it relates to makeup, along with my personal views on it. Growing up, I came from a Christian home, specifically one of the Bible-believing churches. While this didn’t directly affect my opinion on makeup, it did shape certain aspects of my upbringing.
Because of my parents’ role in the church, wearing makeup was frowned upon. It would have been considered shameful for their children to be seen with it. This is me.
However, in my personal opinion, makeup is simply a way to enhance one’s beauty, and I see nothing wrong with that. That said, I also respect religious beliefs and let them have their place.
I don’t wear makeup myself, just lip gloss to keep my lips from drying out. When I was younger, we had a tenant who was very passionate about makeup. She was in school at the time, and I looked up to her as an older sister. She always looked beautiful with her well-applied makeup, and I admired her.
However, over time, she started experiencing skin issues on the face. She developed clogged pores, which led to pimples, blackheads, and acne. Eventually, her skin condition worsened, and she became very self-conscious. She would often cover her face with a scarf whenever she stepped out.
Back then, being a devoted church girl, I suggested she visit our church for prayers. When she came, my dad, who was a pastor, didn’t spend much time discussing her situation. Instead, she was advised to see a doctor. After consulting with a medical professional, she discovered that her skin had developed a reaction due to prolonged use of a particular product.
This experience made me realize the importance of understanding skincare and using makeup wisely. While makeup can enhance beauty, it’s also essential to prioritize skin health. This alone alone put fear in me when I was young about using makeup.
Some of the chemicals in makeup require proper skincare routines. It’s important to wash off makeup before bedtime to prevent skin reactions. Neglecting this can lead to irritation, especially if no prior skin checks were done before using the product.

From my point of view, if someone chooses to use makeup, especially on the face, they should first check the ingredients to ensure they match their skin type. The truth is, we all have different skin types, and the way our skin reacts varies, some effects appear immediately, while others develop over time.
Thanks for reading! Kindly note that I’m not condemning makeup but simply emphasizing the importance of checking its contents to ensure they are suitable for your skin. This is why I prefer something simpler.
