What Are You Looking at, Butthead?

Just want to take a few minutes to remind us all of a national treasure: Tom Wilson.

You probably don't know the name, but you'll know his face. You probably know him best as this guy:

And because of his role in those movies, you probably think of him as a jerk. Yeah of course we all know he's just an actor, but most of us only know him from a single role, and when we only know an actor from a single role, it's sometimes hard to separate the actor from the part.

But he's anything but. Not only is he reported by everyone to be among the nicest of the Back to the Future actors, but he's also a bit of a comedian and a comic singer and does local shows. Here is a bit of a song that he always performs at his shows, or at least always used to.:

That video is from his YouTube channel and was the very first video he posted 18 years ago. 18 years ago.... wow, YouTube really has been around a long time at this point, hasn't it?

Anyway, he isn't a very active YouTuber, but he does post a few videos a year. In the past, they were mainly songs from his stand-up act. Lately he's been posting more vlog type entries where he tells humorous stories while wandering around. Here's his most recent one:

Actually pretty good, where he talks about how at his comedy shows and even at the Back to the Future conventions he attends he is seeing more and more negativity in people, and he talks about that. It's a nice talk.

And that's really what you'll find on his channel, a mix of funny and introspective and philosophic. None of which you might expect from Biff, but there you go.

Here's a funnier one:

Oh man, I can relate to that.

Here's a great behind the scenes at one of this Back to the Future conventions:

Anyway, good stuff. He seems like a fun guy. I'd recommend looking through the video history and seeing if anything jumps out at you. If you subscribe, he only puts out a few videos a year so you won't be overwhelmed. See what you think.

Had no idea the dude was so talented... hahahah cool discovery

I've seen Tom Wilson a couple of times at MegaCon. I couldn't believe how funny and nice he was. It's easy to forget that being a jackass was just an acting role, lol. There have been a couple of slightly different variations of that Back to the Future song. Here's another:

And here's a video I recorded at MegaCon several years back of a Back to the Future panel that included Tom Wilson:

Great version of the song.

Watching that last video, I've seen him and Christopher Lloyd together in a number of videos. What I love about Tom is he always seems so protective of Christopher and is quick to jump in and take over whenever he has a senior moment. It's sweet to watch.

Thanks for this reminder about Tom Wilson. He’s so much more than just Biff! His videos are funny, amazing to watch and thoughtful. That first song is sounds so nice, and his stories really make you smile.

Totally agree!

Haha, that's pretty funny. I actually think what is funniest about it is how spot on they were with the makeup back then to make him older. They pretty much nailed it on the head!

That's true—they were pretty close!

"Hello? Hello? Anybody home?"

Nobody forgets what a great actor he was, especially for being such a jerk to Marty McFly... but I didn’t know he was such a good singer too!

It's surprising, isn't it?

It seems as though James Tolkan is incapable of aging. Dude looks exactly the same as he did in 1985. I wonder if Tom gets royalties or whatever it is called from the BTTF films. I hope so, because he did such a great job as Biff that he likely cannot get many roles since he will always be seen as Biff. I can't recall seeing him in anything other than BTTF, actually. Know of any gems that I should look up that he was in?

Offhand, no, I can't think of a single other movie he was in. He was so good as Biff, I could easily see him being typecast and instead of playing into that, just giving up and going into standup instead.

The interesting part of this movie is what i will like to watch as you recommend it, i believe it will be like as you have narrated, thanks for the enlightenment as well.
