Hello all, I am vaynard86 and this is my first post in this community. I came to know about this community through reading the blog of @funtraveller. My friends always tell me, I don't eat to live but instead I live to eat. And so, here I am to share with all the foodies here some of the good food that I come across in my country, Singapore.
My wife had been busy working on her event planning since the past 2 weeks and finally today is the day of the event and she shared with me that it was a success. In view of this, I decided to surprise her by picking her from her workplace and bring her for a nice dinner. Today's sharing will be on a dinner place that she recommended.
The Place
Mariners' Corner Steak and Seafood Restaurant
Address: 106 Clementi Street 12, #01-40, Singapore 120106
Notes on this place: For those who drive, there is plenty of parking available at this place and is not difficult to find. Look for the iconic swordfish signboard and you know you are at the place.
As you can from the above two photos above about the restaurant, it breathes a very retro and nostalgic feel that is filled with interesting decor, which includes warm downlights, ship wheel, other marine related decor and random items that the owner likes. Seating is generally spacious with sufficient walking space and retro music from the 70s are being played which made the dining environment really nice and cozy.
There restaurant is not fully packed but had quite a handful of patrons.
The Food
The restaurant offered a variety of western food which included ox tail stew, pork chops, chicken chops, fish and chips and many others.
What my wife and I ordered:
Grilled Pork Chop (wife)
Prawn Combo - Garlic Butter Prawns with Chicken Chop (me)
Both of us added an extra $5.80 to complete our meal with Cofee/Tea, Soup of The Day, Garlic Bread, Salad and Dessert
Food Showcase (apologies, I did not manage to capture the photo of the Garlic Bread because I was too hungry and gobbled it up when it was served)
The salad is done just right with many layers of textured bites, which included corns, salad bread crumbs, raisins, cabbage and carrot. The salad dressing was also really nicely done which is not overpowering but increased the freshness and crunchiness of the ingredients. For someone who is not a real fan of salad, polishing the whole bowl of salad meant something.
Soup of the day was corn and chicken soup. Nicely flavoured soup with loads of bite within. It was also nice and warm which makes it a hearty treat.
Wife ordered this and it did not disappoint her. Meat was done just right and not overcooked. She gave me a slice of it and I truly enjoyed it. There was no signs of toughness and the given sauce elevates the taste of the pork chop.
I ordered this. The aroma of the garlic was so nice that before even it reach my table, I can detect it. The prawns were really fresh with a nice bite, when combined the garlic beats, it was really good too. The chicken chop was moist, tender and the BBQ sauce that was given complements the meat well. A well done combo of two different kind of meats. There is also mash potato provided with boiled vegetables too.
This cake while looking ordinary, it is fully loaded with walnuts, giving it loads of bite and texture. A simple and nice dessert to wrap up the dinner.
Closing
A hidden gem that has great menu with a good variety. The quality of the food served is by far way above expectations. The portions are rather good and that added upgrade to complete the meal is great too. The best thing is that the pricing is reasonable and value for money. I would definitely return to this place to savour other items in the menu.
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. Hope you enjoy my sharing. Let me know your thoughts and I hope to share more good food with the community soon.
