Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine and ending your workweek after a week long of work. Today I went to pick my wife from work we've decided to try something new at our most frequent mall, The Star Vista where I had showcase many of their amazing food in previous post. This place has so many hidden gems, so many interesting and nice food places for me to explore. As we walked through the corridor searching on what food to eat, we came across a bistro and decided to give it a try.
The Place
5 Senses Bistro
Address: 1 Vista Exchange Green, #02-21 The Star Vista, Singapore 138617
The mall that we frequent a lot and need not much introduction. Very accessible mall that is well connected to public transport and with ample parking. A nice and cozy restaurant that seemed to be run by young owners. Been a while since I had meals in bistros, so why not come in and see what they got to offer.
Here's how the place looks like:

When I entered the bistro, the ambience felt great and it can be seen that the owners chose to use industrial theme for their decor with bricks and black bars/frames. I like that it has ample walking space which will not obstruct the movement path for customers or the servers. Place is clean and the seats are comfy as well. So let's move to the food.
The Food
This place serve what we usually refer to as "western" food. It serve a great deal of pasta, grills and various seafood. We just wanted a simple dinner after a long day of work, so after running through the menu, we ordered the following:
2 set dinner with different main and sides which includes beverage and mushroom soup
- 200g Black Angus Sirloin Steak with salad and fries
- Cajun Grilled Chicken with coleslaw and onion rings
One of the soup was finished before I managed to take a picture as we were too hungry. But all in all the food served looked really appetising. And with very decent portion. Now let's dive into each of the individual items.
200g Black Angus Sirloin Steak
While it mentioned it is 200g only, but that piece of steak looks huge. I chose for it to be done medium which is the usual way I like my steak to be done. There are many places that serve steaks and what set each of them apart is how they grill the steak with the marinate and also the sauce. Control when cooking the steak is important especially when there are different levels of how cooked one desires the steak to be. The medium that I requested for was nicely done and no hint of the meat becoming tough. Next is the marinate and herbs that were used to grill the steak. It gave a nice fragrance to the meat and can still be tasted even after the sauce is being drenched over the steak. The pepper sauce that came with the steak was good, it elevates the taste of the steak without masking the original taste of the meat and the herb marinate. This is really done with loads of depth and consideration. A very good piece of steak that will hook me back for more.
The side dishes I gotten for myself were fries and garden salad. Fries were rather standard, nice and crispy. Salad wise is a good balance to the meal and I like it too.
Cajun Grilled Chicken
This is what my wife ordered. A seemingly simple dish when it was served but the meat juices were well locked and succulent to the bite. I typically would not like to eat grilled chicken as I will worry that an overgrilled chicken will end up tasting very dry and cardboard-like hence I avoid ordering this dish. However, when my wife cut a slice of the meat for me, I was like wow, this is not bad. The cajun marinate and the slight hint of spices used was a good blend, a great combo of taste and texture. This underwhelming piece of chicken is a hidden gem. Something that I myself can consider ordering the next time I visit this place.
For side dish, my wife picked coleslaw and onion rings. Both of which were decent and taste good, though I wished if only they could serve more onion rings as there were only 4 pieces I think. Coleslaw wise, I think the KFC coleslaw was better with more crunch than this.
Mushroom Soup
A simple dish but again packed with loads of flavour with loads of bite within which meant there were more ingredients within it rather than starch that was used to thicken the soup. Rare to get soup that had more bite than what it looked.
Overall:
Personally, when the food was served, some of them looked a little ordinary and simple. But when you started eating it, you can tell how much heart was put into preparing them, paying attention to the little details and elevating all these dishes with good cooking techniques, use of herbs and well blended sauces. I am glad that I've manage to find this place and enjoy the food served here. And yes, I will return to try more of these simple food that can surprise me.
Closing
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. It is not often that we can find good food that is done with additional attention to details. Another nice find in this amazing mall.
See you in the next post!
