Missed the boat with my black marble table and chair!

Hello Hello to all Hivians and indeed anyone reading this.

When it comes to colours black is a very powerful and meaningful colour in its own right.

Today I am sharing some black birds...
and something else..

It turns out that almost all my photographs with black are birds!

Rooks Raven Crows and even blackbirds are all black.

This wee chappy I saw in a tree yesterday.

The coal table and chair

This is the something else I mentioned earlier.

Yesterday evening I attended a preview of an art exhibition to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our local art gallery and war memorial.

Competition Entry

You can see that I have taken the inlay from the back of the chair as my entry.

Fife the county in Scotland where I am from has a rich history of coal mining.

The furniture was carved by Thomas Williamson who was a stone mason from West Wemyss.

His patrons were the influential Wemyss family, who owned land and coal pits in the area.

Can you believe that he carved the table and chair from coal!

In 1855 he created the set using Wemyss Parrot Coal.

Wemyss Parrot Coal is also known as cannel coal and has a texture similar to marble but is challenging to carve.

When I first saw I, I did think it was black marble!

The image shows a swan and the French phrase "JE PENSE." This phrase translates to "I think" in English.

I think it is a no brainer that I should use that as my entry picture!

This post though is a cockup!

I was making it tonight to enter in a colours of life contest , I went to the contest post to see the rules and found it had fluffing closed earlier today!

Well no matter, I had my second shingles vaccination yesterday afternoon so was not quite right earlier on today!

That is my excuse and as we are all Silverites in here that is what I am sticking with!

But seriously the coal table looks like black marble and is fluffing gorgeous!

Have you ever seen coal furniture made from coal?

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!

It's always interesting to me how similar and dissimilar crows, blackbirds and ravens are to each other.

Then you have rooks although they have different coloured beaks. Blackbirds are smaller with orangey beaks and the females are brown so they are easier to spot. The ravens and crows looks almost identical, basically the feathers are the difference but you need a corvid fan to really tell them apart.

Really, you can make furniture from coal? That's amazing and the furniture is looking so regal.

The birds are cute too😂

Yes I have never seen any other coal furniture nor did I sit on it feel how hard or cold it was lol!

😂😂

First time I hear about coal furniture. Thank you for that

Yes it was my first time too. But it looked quite something.

It's stunning pieces indeed, I would never in my wildest dreams have thought one could carve a table and chair out of coal! A master craftsman for sure, amazing!
Never mind that you missed the boat; we at least got to see something very special.

It was so smooth, it really did have a marble look to it. It really was a gorgeous work of art, and now I think of it, it is 170 years young!

you should be stalking funeral homes they often have black cars 😂😂

haha you are right there, but I try to stay away from funeral homes 🤣

Never! I have seen beautiful furniture made of strange or unusual materials, but never one made of charcoal. It looks very nice and delicate. The color black can be synonymous with elegance, although seeing black birds can be considered a bad omen. As I was reading I remembered Poe's Raven: “Nevermore”. A hug with wings and charcoal!

The coal table and coal chair were even more beautiful in person Nancy! hehe black is a cool colour or no colours! The birds hehe I think everything is a bad omen in some culture.
I love your memory of literature! A black lucky hug Nancy :)

How were the birds able to stay still with you in sight?

Cool pictures😃

Hehe I spoke to them ;)

Lol, what did you say to them? “Be still?”😂😂

Pose for me 🤣 You do know I call them names..
So it is a case of hey Davey, get your best pose on...

or

Hey Tammy look at the camera and smile...

Hahahaha dear Lord, I can’t even imagine what was going through their minds.

hehe some of them recognise me, and I feed them so they remember

Ohh that explains alot, well done👍

hehe I am wildlife eddie, used to do it in Africa too

How were the birds able to stay still with you in sight?

Cool pictures😃

I had no idea that coal could be carved so beautifully. It looks like black marble.😯

The first time I saw it I thought was black marble, it looks even better in person .... Coal furniture ... who knew!
