Balls ~ I've lost my fluffing marbles SBC12

in Silver Bloggers4 days ago

Hello Hello to all Hivians, Silver Bloggers and anyone else reading this.

This week's The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt 12 is ....

Tell us about simple childhood toys.

What were some of the toys you played with?

You may even have made your own toys from ordinary stuff around the house, or made up your own games?

Fresh Air the best toy

Looking back the biggest thing we did as kids was to spend time outside.

In the summer almost all the time was spent on the beach.

Buckets and spades were never far away. Who didn't love to make sandcastles for example.

Sticks were so useful too.

You could use them as swords to have playfights with your friends. Or if the rival gang was on the beach, then you could use them for some more real fighting lol. The amount of cuts and bruised knuckles we would get I am sure would have todays society running to the police claiming child abuse or something, at least in this UK society of ours.

Of course sticks were also our dog's favourites toys too!

Talking of dogs, the other thing we would never be without was a football, see the lead image...

Unless of course your dog got to it first and yep it got deflated haha!

We used to play alot of marbles too.

Indoor Toys

There was no phones or PlayStations in my day as a child.

I used to love playing with toy cars and also now that I think about it toy soldiers!

image.png

I know I would devise little contests amongst them all, I am sure others did the same!

I also had a dart board in my bedroom and would play all sorts of games on there.

We really were creative with what we did.

The other item I had was a pack of cards. I remember one year for Christmas I got a paperback book of card tricks and would practise them for hours on end.

To this day I can still pull some tricks from up my sleeve lol!

What about you? What were some of the toys you played with??

Sort:

fresh air the best toy, couldn't agree more. These days I blame society, which has become risk averse, tales of kiddy fiddlers and attempted abductions of kids blah blah bah. Fuck me growing up we were always warned about the "bogey man". No matter how far our gang looked searched hung around we never found him.

Rubber matting under swings and climbing frames? just chuck a length of rope over a low slung branch, sometimes over open water and way to go. Did me no harm!!

These days I blame society

Yes I agree 100% and better not start before I rant, but yeah so soft etc it's ridiculous.

It is funny you mention the bogey man we never saw him let alone found him either lol

The swings and climbing frames, rubber mats and wood chips in play areas, it is ridiculous, it's no wonder what has become of society now.

batting for the same side here LOL

The ball is every lads best toy.

Hehe it is great, and so many cuts and scrapes from playing on tarmac streets lol

Those were the days...

lol yes, do you play?

Like maybe 4 years ago😂

lol a lifetime ago 🤣

No PlayStation for me either, as it hadn't been invented yet! Atari was the first games system in the house, that was a while ago! But real toys were what we all played with back in the day. Toy cars and trains, LEGOs, Tinker Toys... It's hard to believe that so many years have already gone by!

I hope Monday is treating you well so far, and that the weather is nice and sunny!

Ah yes an Atari was the first we had too. LEGO was the other thing we had, although it always got lost and was none of the fancy kits you get now. We just had blocks, and now I think about it, I had a mecanno set too when I got older, oh yes and a chemistry set. That was fun causing chemical reactions lol and no surprise I became a Chemical Engineer!

Monday is good ...although at 6.38 this morning it hit 2 fluffing degrees or 35.6 Fahrenheit! Ridiculous and killing my bones lol

Did you guys have lawn darts over there? They have been outlawed here but I think my parents still have a set of them somewhere in the garage.

Oh yes! I remember those big darts, we used to play with them on the beach too, yeah wicked things they could be 🤣🤣

The beach. I remember one day I was almost forgotten because I was playing with my plastic doll on the beach. I don't remember the script, but I made up a whole story and forgot we were going home.
I played marbles just to find out what you kids felt like throwing those little colored balls, but I never understood. What I did like was their color. In the movie Toy Story, there are some little soldiers with parachutes. It took me back to those days when we would throw those little soldiers into the sky to see how they would land on their parachutes. Tender and fond memories @tengolotodo

I bet you still have some tricks up your sleeve. 😜🤩

hehe very guilty of that lol

I had toys similar to yours, in fact, I remember a race track that was mistakenly given to us and that we used to take our dolls for a ride. I still have knee marks from the injuries I got back then just from running or playing with the ball. In our favor: although dangerously, we were children who had a lot of fun!!! A hug as transparent and colorful as a marble.

Ah yes girls and their carpet burn marks! Exactly children who had fun playing around and it was also getting plenty of exercise. lol but not dangerous, now society has gone soft, at least in the UK.

Soccer really wasn't popular here in the States when I was kid, but basketball was, so we would pick up a basketball and shoot hoops outside somewhere. As far as sticks go, I am with you, they made great all purpose toys and weapons. I had the little minitature green toy soldiers in a bucket when I was a kid and would play with them like crazy when I was little. I was mostly an outside kid, so even those made their way into the outdoors for playtime.

Hope you are doing well my friend.

Hehe yes quite a few of those little green toy soldiers would get lost on the beach, or should I say left behind on the battlefield 🤣

Yeah you guys had your basketball which just never took off here at all. We would throw a couple of t-shirts or jumpers down on the ground and we had our goals.

Aye those were days.

I don't have interest in playing with balls back then. Not even volleyball. I feel my wrist would break hitting that ball😛. You like to look for trouble back then and start the fight?😬

lol yeah volleyball could leave your wrist sore lol!
Oh yes I never walked away from trouble 🤣

It's like no one can beat you back then😬😁

hehe the older bigger boys could lol

Of course I know you wouldn't pick a fight with them😛

hehe I did sometimes 🤣

No balls for me...;) well not til I was 16 bahahhaha

Sand for me too. I am glad I didn't grow up with the Internet.
.

oh you were 16 eh 🤣🤣

Yeah no internet as a kid was fluffing awesome. Talk about different times.

So very true - fresh air for sure is the very best toy! I often think of the stuff we used to do, and how we or our parents would get into trouble if got up to that kind of mischief!

It was fun and normal. Society now has gone too soft in so many ways.
