Community Brings Us Together

Collective Identity Is Strength, Diversity, Connections With People

Wow a long walk down blogging together, we have yet to meet in person, true Durbanites or is it just me? Real life takes us on journeys between loadshedding, lockdowns, losing loved ones we have maintained contact through it all, thanks Lizelle it's always good to know one has others to confide/rely on, something I have found with all members who join is they tend to understand!

Contact started before Hive came into fruition, when @lizelle made contact after I had almost imploded with a person I thought I knew, turned out being a scam artist. Discord actually became a wonderful way to keep contact from June 2018, our form of bush telegraph messaging has continued, as and when either of us had time to check messages.

April 2021 contacted mentioning Silver Bloggers introductory post going out We've Only Just Begun..., being inundated with a personal uphill, I never ventured to join the team, remained in background as support, great to see many faces still on the inaugural post May 1st, 2021.

June 2022 @mondoshawan assisted with page divider, art work in footer by Hubby to @artywink for Silver Bloggers, a big thanks there too!

April 2023 Silver Bloggers went onto open an online store to assist buying/selling using Hive, Thrifted, this is a brilliant idea for pre-loved goods being sold has been successfully tried and tested.

Outpouring of sympathy to @fionasfavourite when Tom passed away early June 2023. Unbeknown Lizelle's Arthur would pass in July a month later. I am not a great with words when it comes to such loss The Rose, support for one another makes this community a wonderful place online to call home.

Three years celebrating, sharing, moving through the years Silver's Team need to be thanked for dedicating time to bring people together, currently @fionasfavourites, @lizelle, @tengolotodo, @coquicoin and @mondoshawan are steering.

Lizelle words - "This is NOT a Geriatric Society so no talk of Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles, Pills and the like will be tolerated; members will be muted if found guilty of this offense". What to do/Ho to Guide

Happy 3rd Anniversary to the Silver Blogger community on Hive!

You're great at #community building, Joan!
My condolences (I didn't know!) to @fionasfavourite ("Tom passed away early June 2023") and Lizelle ("Arthur would pass in July a month later.") Isn't @owasco part of this group? She lost her son. Was that in 2022....?
Joan, I may be confusing you with @redheadpei, but so many of (and @myjob, who may not be in #silverbloggers) have suffered great losses.
How many of us knew @wonderwop, aka Bruni? One of our own died of cancer.
(Bruni have been in #freewriting only.)
And Sharon (username escapes me) - she DIED.
Be well everyone!!!

Carol, I’m Joanne @redheadpei. I know you have your own heartbreak with the loss of your sister by horrific circumstances.
My deepest condolences to the folks you mentioned who’s loved ones have passed.
Take care and be well. ♥️

Good to see you Joanne, trust all is well.

Losing siblings, partners, parents or children, one feels at a loss, take care @carolkean

@fitinfun and @fitinfunfood - Sharon

Both of them chronicled their deaths on Hive, but were gone by the time silver bloggers came into being. I don't think Sharon knew she was dying, but Uncle Bruni did. Sharon could not pay for the medical intervention she needed to stay alive.

Many more have come and gone, great many of us are still here!

Many have gone on before us @wales, lizziesworld, Sharon @fitinfun, plus those you mentioned, most on old platform.

Joanne and Joan similar not the same !LOLZ

I like that African proverb you shared today, Joan.
Fortunately, at Silver Bloggers, we all have a little piece. 🤗

Expressive in how it works, something taught from young, learn to share the workload, means a lot!

Thanks for you visit and kind comment, plus !LUV

Thanks Ed always appreciated.

This is awesome Joan showing us a wee journey into the history of Silver Bloggers from the start.
You are one wonderful member I have seen always supporting the community in my time here.

Love any free time I am able to spare here, perhaps one day when the desktop is cleared will afford me time to become more involved.... 🙃

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon
Because of these things you mention is the passion I feel for #hive, and people are the most precious resource of our company (Hive)
I loved the final thought.
"In a community it is better for each person to have a little of something than for one person to have everything"
Have a wonderful afternoon

We are fortunate being able to meet people from all over, share, compare notes on what we experience.

We met online, now your granddaughter which is refreshing, many people all ages simply enjoy communicating in whichever format we enjoy.

Hi Joan and happy 3rd anniversary to the Silver Bloggers. You are always on top of whatever is happening on Hive. We have not met in person but I feel as though we know each other and could have a smile over a cuppa coffee or a beer.
Take care and be well , my friend.

We ever meet it would be a day out with coffee and a beer later to share!

Stay well and take care, trust all is well over there....

Thank you @redheadpei!

Hi Joan, wow three years already. Where does the time go? So many of us have been here for years and have seen so many lives turned inside and out due to loosing a beloved family member. Our communities have shared so much love and compassion through it all. You, my dear, have always been there for so many. Much love and appreciation to you. ❤️🥰😘

Ah Wanda my move here was with your son and daughter-in-law plus others meeting over the years online, enjoying honest good company brought us here.

Enjoy the company, always learning or sharing keeps life interesting.

So sad that we have to lost people we love in death and we get not to see them again, we won't give up but still building.
Happy anniversary to this awesome community.

Only certainty in life is death, we can only support those left to carry on.

Brilliant team and members.

Yes let's just keep pushing, no one knows tomorrow

Awesome response @joanstewart, it's been quite a journey getting to know you! Shall I say my agony aunt at times when I'm uncertain.
Your calm wisdom and good advice is always appreciated!
Yes, I can't believe that it's almost a year since that most awful day of my life. Being able to bare my heart on Hive, has been a tremendous help.
I do think a small meet-up of Durbanites or anyone close enough, is a great idea.
(3am and I'm scrolling through Hive! Insomnia hits me at times...)

We tend to live from one day to the next, amazing how many responsibilities one has around a home, much more difficult coping on your own.

I stopped travel to/from Durban years ago after attempted hi-jacking, really put the wind up me, so wherever you wonder try take someone with always.

Losing loved ones, our time keeps ticking, loss forever felt no such thing "you get over it", you don't, simply carry on remembering the good times!

I rely on my son to keep everything going, NZ did not work out, so fixing/repairing flatlet for him, hubby refuses to see doctor trying to convince me he has lost it therefore unable to assist... Not much I can do unless the person admits problem to a doc for medication.

loss forever felt no such thing "you get over it", you don't, simply carry on remembering the good times!

People really have no idea telling one that you'll 'get over it'.
I am careful, and have even taken Cynthia and Bonginkosi with me when going a little further afield.

We must try and meet sometime though, anywhere near you, if you can suggest somewhere nice that way?

Life is tough right now for so many people, I truly hope your son finds something.
All we can do is to take it day by day, and not fret trying to solve all of life's problems in one day.

My son continues to run his computer repair little business, one man business, never closed simply notified his clients who are mostly pensioners when he went and returned. Looking for alternative to work into a company one day....

Younger son and his wife have full time employment and live/work up your neck of the woods, I have only visited him once since January, they pop down regularly.

Once cleared from all the daily tasks will try make a plan and phone you then we can chat.

People are battling everywhere, let us hope for a better outcome with National Assembly sitting today, a more stable future for all.
