I'm not sure where the phrase came from, but the NCAA men's basketball tournament is often referred to as "the big dance". Probably similar to how major league baseball is called "the show", if you want to find the history, feel free to Google it yourself. In the next few weeks I will be focusing less on why it's called whatever it is called and more on what is actually happening at said dance.
We have already moved past the point of the play-in games and things are finally set for the action to start happening today at 12:15 PM. My brother in law got up at 4:00 this morning to start the drive down to North Carolina to meet up with his friends. They have been making this annual trip for longer than I have known him to hit the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament.
Alabama State took down SFPA to meet up with Auburn in the Round of 64. Likewise, Mount St. Mary's beat America, North Carolina beat San Diego State University, and Xavier beat Texas.
I started this post thinking I was going to tell you some specific games you might want to catch today, but quite honestly, it's the big dance, you should watch as many as you can. I don't care if it is a 8 vs 9 match up or a 1 versus a 16, you need to have your screen on with these games playing.
I already have a dedicated computer set up in my office and I plan on using the YouTube TV multiview feature to full effect. By the time 2:00 PM hits I should be watching no less than four games all at once.
I am a bit bummed to find that my Michigan State Spartans don't play until 10:00 PM tomorrow night. Even though it isn't a school night, that might still be a bit too late for me to stay up and watch. Good thing I have unlimited DVR I guess. I just hope it ends up being a blowout win for MSU.
It's going to be interesting to see how intact my bracket is after this first day of games. I have little doubt there will be some cracks here and there, but hopefully it doesn't get completely busted. Given the fact that neither of my final two teams play today, I should be relatively okay.
We will see! Check back tomorrow for a full update on all of today's action. I'd also like to point out that my niece had another softball scrimmage last night and her team won 15 to 0.
