Repairing a broken coffee maker [Eng+Spa]

in #diy2 days ago

Greetings to my esteemed DIY community, I hope you are enjoying a good month of December.

I've been busy in the workshop with a lot of minor repairs; they're small, and I hadn't planned to show them, but in the end I decided to share some so as not to let too much time pass without posting.

My dad got a nice Oster coffee maker at a great price, but as always happens when something is on sale, it has its flaws. The coffee carafe was damaged.

In the end, the replacement carafe was going to cost almost as much as a complete, working coffee maker. There was no point in buying a replacement part that costs the same as the whole machine I'm repairing. This is what I mentioned in my previous post, where replacement parts cost as much as, or even more than, a monitor just like the one I was repairing.

My dad found a carafe at a secondhand market, an Oster brand, but a different model.

Guess who had to work their magic to fix the problem?

Not only was the carafe slightly shorter, but the design of the coffee carafe lid was also completely different; one lid was concave, and the other was convex.

On the original coffee maker carafe, the lid's shape included a protrusion to activate the anti-drip system.

When the carafe was placed on the lid, the lid pressed the spring, allowing the coffee to flow into the carafe.

For this adaptation, I used recycled plastic bottles of varying sizes to create an extension of the anti-drip system.

First, I tried shaping the plastic extension with hot air.

I made versions of different sizes molded with hot air, but I wasn't satisfied with the results and discarded them.

Finally, I used a cooking oil container that I found, which had the right shape to cut and use to make the extension of the coffee's anti-drip system.

I secured the plastic extension with instant glue. The hot air molding didn't work well in all my attempts; I need to practice that plastic molding technique more.

I let it dry completely after gluing it, tested the pitcher, and it worked fine, activating the anti-drip spring.

This post has been a bit short, but the truth is, this adaptation took quite a while to complete because of all the failed attempts, but I finally achieved my goal.

Well, thank you so much for stopping by and reading.

Have a wonderful week.

Peace.

Paz.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

Thank you, @melinda010100.
