It's a world of mobile phone and these days most of the communication happens on phone through text messages. It is easy sometimes to message then talk. If we are occupied in some work then texting becomes convenient but in texting the tone gets lost, and the opposite person cannot really predict your mood through it. Sometimes just a simple ok can be misunderstood. I always prefer to send my text messages with emojis so that it gives the opposite person and idea of what is my mood and even if it is just a simple message the mood is appropriately set.
Hubby gets annoyed with me when I do not call and only message. To be honest I have this phone call phobia. In my corporate jobs almost through the day I used to be on calls and that annoyed me so much that now I hate to be on a phone call. I do not like to call and speak on phone much. If I have to, I use the speaker, so if there is some conversation where I cannot use the speakers then I text message. My phone calls if not on speaker are always very short. That leaves me with texting and voice messages, for which I need to be careful what message I am conveying is interpreted in the right manner.
A face to face conversation is easy to understand because you can see the body language, expression and feel the tone. And day by day messages are getting shorter which makes it all the more difficult sometimes to understand. The slang phone language is something which I do not understand much and sometimes when someone sends me I have to google it up to understand. At the same time, sometime when I have to convey a hard message I find it easy to do over a text then on a normal call. Which I believe is with most of us. It is easier to convey hard messages on text then to do on someone's face directly.
Whatever it is, this is the way forward, and it just needs a little care of expressing the right emotion when done on a text message.
