The worry of children's education

in #children28 days ago

From the time the child is born, parents start thinking about their education, which is not wrong to an extent, because even getting admission in kindergarten these days has become a challenge. And this is not the problem of the recent times. This has been a problem even 3 decades back and may be even before that. I faced this challenge 28 years back also when my son was born and in a couple of years, I had to think about his schooling. Asa kid he was very introvert, and would never talk in front of others. I was all the more worried about his education. Also in those days, me and hubby both did not earn much so we had to think of his education within our means.

We could not think of the high-end schools, we had to go to the next level, the mid-range ones. But here as well there was tough competition. For his admission in the nursery class. We applied in 3 different schools. In one of them, we had to reach there early morning by 4 a.m. to stand in the queue to get the admission form on day 1, because it was a popular school, and the forms would get over within the first 2 to 3 hours of opening itself. Of the 3 in 2 schools, he was rejected, because he did not speak and answer the interviewing panel. Imagine a child of 3 years going through that process. I was feeling bad with all of this, because somewhere he got more scared with all of this process. In the 3rd one he did get and I was happy. Even though the process was tedious, in the end it was successful, so I was relieved. To get this admission, we had to start preparing him from his age of 2. We had enrolled him in a play group so that he could be prepared for the actual school admission. The play group charges were no less.

It was a financial struggle, because getting him in school was important. But now when I think of it, I feel it was madness, like a rat race. Even after getting his admission in that 1 school, our worries did not end, because whatever little he had started speaking, after going to the school, he stopped that as well. And that freaked me to hell. It's a completely different story, in short there was a problem with one of the teachers who was not treating him well, and the result of that was affecting his speech. I had to get him off that school, and then it was a process all over again. For 1 year, I gave him private education and got him out of that fear mode. After that I did not push him for any fancy school, and went for a school which could match his caliber of that time.

But then as he started growing up and building up confidence, I observed he was feeling inferior in his friend circle, because everyone went to fancy schools, whereas his school was mediocre. After few years, again it was a task for me to get him into a school, where he would feel confident. By this time, he was good enough to clear the admission process and got through. And the worry did not end here also; there were another set of challenges.

This is my story and I am sure, every parent is facing some or the other challenge with their children's education. But what freaks me, that these things start right from their age of 2 years, which is such a big pressure not only for the parents but for the little infant also. The problem is that if they are not enrolled in the school at the right time, they will face challenges coping up with other students as they grow up. Imagine a child of 5 years going to a nursery class, at that age the child may not realize but as they will progress with their classes, they will feel the difference.

Home schooling is a very good option, but that can be done, when both the parents can commit themselves completely to the child's education. In my case, we were both working and working was important for us, there was no choice over that, so we had to go for a school. Anyways, I am happy because with time, I can see his and our efforts giving good results. My little shy boy is no more shy, he is a confident young man, he has extraordinarily turned brilliant and practicing Functional Medicine, which I had never envisioned in his growing up.

Thank goodness is now a success story the guy is doing great now, challenges most parents face not that they don't want the best for their children but lack of money hindered them. Bad teachers too contributes to a child not doing well when they treat the child badly, the child become afraid of them

Lack of money can be a constraint but I believe more important is the type of teacher the child has. In my son's case, his first teacher was extremely nasty and that impacted him a lot

It show just how stressful early education can be for both the parents and the kids. It’s a reminder that patience and understanding are just as important as academics in helping children grow confident and happy.

Absolutely, those early years it is a test for both the child and the parents

It was really tedious task to sort out the education process of your son at that age and much props to you for observing how he's processing the situation and adjusting to better fit his expectations. Interestingly, I was also very quite as a child, my mother thought I couldn't speak because I hardly say a word unless it was absolutely necessary for me to say something. I was the type that will just go to school, be by myself, get the work done for school, whatever that maybe, then get back home. I think I just couldn't relate with most kids at that time, didn't have any common ground to work within or shared values/principles to build a relationship around.

I am sure your mother has put in a great lot of effort on you. Also I have observed that children like you when they grow up tend to be very intelligent and smart and they have a lot of hidden knowledge which just comes by itself to them. I call people like you old souls and I can completely relate with you because my Son has similar behavior.
