Every day is a new challenge

in #business5 days ago

With my Airbnb business every day there is a new challenge to face and a new learning for me. My list of rules and regulations keeps getting lengthy by the day....haha. It's so difficult to manage people sometimes and keep them happy. Last week there was a group of 8 people, who had booked a 2 nights stay with us. Through out the stay I have a practice to call up the guest once a day and check on them if everything is going fine and if they would need any assistance. As per the practice, I did with this group as well.

When I called them up they told me everything was very good and they were having a very good time. I was happy that everything was well. Once their stay was over, I asked them to share their feedback with us. Normally I ask them to put the review on google. I was very surprised to see their review. They had complaints about my staff and complaint that the towel was not changed on the second day. I always tell update my customers that the linen and towels will be changed once in 3 days. If their stay is shorter then that, then it will not be changed.

The problem with people is that they do not read the rules and regulations carefully at the time of booking and after that they complaint. Here I was more shocked because when I asked them on the call, they had praises for everything but then later with the complaint of the towel, they gave me a one star rating. Somewhere after reading their review I felt that they had made up their mind to give me low rating and for that reason they just wanted some lame reason. There was nothing concrete that they could write negative and hence such a loose comment they put up.

This is what they wrote for my place

I could not hold myself back so this is my response to them. I seriously feel how people can be so unmindful.

At our home we use our towel for a week and do not put in laundry ever day, but when we travel we use these things so carelessly. I hate when people throw towels and linen on the ground after using it in hotels. At home do we throw them on the floor? then why do we do that at the hotels. When I stay at a hotel, I use the same towels and napkins through the stay. Only if my stay is more then 6 to 7 days then I request a change.

What do you all think about this issue. What is your general behavior on these things when you travel?

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

It's a human tendency; human behaviour is so unpredictable.

Hospitality is actually more about managing expectations.

There is a problem when a guest assumes something and deems it as the stated rule without even having to go through the rules. It’s frustrating for a owner when clear communication (like your towel policy) is overlooked.

Guests come and go, reviews could fluctuate, and challenges may arise, but your ability to adapt and learn remains constant-- that is what our journey is.

Thank you.

You are right and one of my friend also says that all good reviews may look very unreal, so once in a while such reviews also help :-)

That's absolutely so rude! Just some people love to throw off their atitude and never appreciate things even when they are perfectly fine.!

It is each one's personality that reflects in different ways

Totally understand how frustrating that must’ve been. It’s clear you’re putting in a lot of effort—don’t let one unfair review get you down. You’ve got this!

Thank you. No, I am not, for a day I did feel bad but then now it's just one passing moment and that's it

Privileged "white" people? Perhaps? :p

Its crazy how different people are and what they expect even when they don't read your rules xD

I was just at a 3 starred hotel in The Netherlands last weekend and they changed our towels daily & did the bed, which me and my friends found really weird for not only a 2 nights stay, but also because we had our stuff in the room and the staff just went in without notifying us first?
It was very weird too us :/

Also, the hotel wasn't well managed, some lights was crooket, it was a little bit dirty and the doors to the toilets all had water damage x)
Weird place, but cheap xD

No they were not. These are the local people throwing their weight around.
I am ok with any place as far as they mention everything clearly before booking, because then it's an informed decision.
Here in India also we have the same practice that the housekeeping will do the cleaning part even if you are away. If you do not wish them to enter the room, you can switch on the do-not-disturb sign, then they will not. All of the housekeeping people are honest. Till date I have never had experience of any missing things in this situation.

Ohh thats annoying!! :c

Ohh interesting. I think our problem was we were never told they would do it x) So we didn't get the chance to opt-out and we also didn't have a "do-not-disturb" sign :/

Yes, ofc the majority of housekeeping people are honest, so were the people at this hotel :D
We just wasn't informed :c

I love your response to them ma, some people are just unnecessary difficult. If it were their home would they change their towels every day.

Ya, I know some people want to prove their presence on the planet....haha

But you are luck this way in Africa your lucky if you even get a clean towel and they don't even wash the sheets with soap

Ooopss, that would be bad
