El mes de abril desde ya se pinta con grandes sorpresas, la primera y quizás la más significativa es el cumpleaños número 7 de mi hijo Jeremías. La cuenta regresiva comenzó desde hace semanas atrás, y cada día que pasa es sinónimo de un recordatorio de esa fecha tan esperada. Por tanto, es improbable que pueda olvidarlo. Lo segundo es que durante esos días también se estará efectuando el festival nacional de voleibol categoría semilla en nuestra ciudad, así que esto asegura, un inicio de mes bastante movido.

The month of April is already full of surprises, the first and perhaps the most significant one is my son Jeremías' 7th birthday. The countdown started weeks ago, and every day that passes is synonymous with a reminder of that long-awaited date. Therefore, it is unlikely that I will be able to forget it. The second thing is that during those days the national seed category volleyball festival will also be taking place in our city, so this assures a very busy beginning of the month.

El torneo tiene estipulado durar semana y media, para ellos se han planificado una serie de prácticas con los niños para enfocarse en cómo va a ser la presentación del equipo para esta competencia.

The tournament is scheduled to last a week and a half, for which a series of practices have been planned with the children to focus on how the team's presentation will be for this competition.

En verdad, hay muchas dudas para nuestra presentación, apenas se programaron 3 o 4 días de prácticas antes de comenzar la justa deportiva. Realmente el equipo está pasando por una reestructuración, ya que la mayoría de los jugadores pasaron de categoría y quedaron solo dos o 3 jugadores del equipo que representaron al estado en las pasadas competencias.

In truth, there are many doubts for our presentation, only 3 or 4 days of practices were scheduled before the start of the sports competition. The team is really going through a restructuring process, since most of the players have moved on and there are only two or three players left from the team that represented the state in the past competitions.

La categoría semilla tiene una edad límite de 9 años. Jeremías está por cumplir los 7 años, así que todavía le queda tiempo para adaptarse y, por lo que se ve, el equipo está casi hecho para él y dos compañeros más que vienen del periodo anterior. Jere comenzó a practicar voleibol a los 6 años, en una categoría muy superior por la cuestión de la edad. Lo que hace que tenga ventajas por llegar a temprana edad y tener la oportunidad de disputar más encuentros que el resto de los niños que llegan luego de los 7 y hasta los 8 para apenas comenzar a aprender el deporte.

The seed category has an age limit of 9 years old. Jeremías is about to turn 7, so he still has time to adapt and, by the looks of it, the team is almost made for him and two more teammates coming from the previous period. Jere started playing volleyball when he was 6 years old, in a much higher category due to his age. This gives him the advantage of arriving at an early age and having the opportunity to play more matches than the rest of the children who arrive after the age of 7 or even 8 to just start learning the sport.

Las prácticas se están realizando en la cancha del hospital central Antonio María Pineda, en la sede de una de las escuelas más populares de voleibol de la ciudad. El martes tuvimos en práctica y tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir con varias de las categorías que hacen vida dentro de la reconocida cancha. Quedamos gratamente sorprendidos, al apreciar que era una cantidad grande de atletas que todos los días se reúnen en el reciento para hacer deporte, en este caso el voleibol.

The practices are being held at the court of the central hospital Antonio Maria Pineda, at the headquarters of one of the most popular volleyball schools in the city. On Tuesday we had practice and had the opportunity to share with several of the categories that make life within the recognized court. We were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a large number of athletes who gather every day at the facility to play sports, in this case volleyball.

Todavía estamos esperando la confirmación para ir a práctica el día de mañana, así que, siento que me espera un día largo porque debo ir al liceo para luego buscar a Jeremías en el norte de la ciudad, traerlo a la práctica. Escribiendo estas líneas, me doy cuenta de que es más fácil que en vez de llevarlo de regreso a casa. Más bien, es más cómodo traerlo conmigo y que pase el fin de semana a mi lado.

We are still waiting for the confirmation to go to practice tomorrow, so I feel like I have a long day ahead of me because I have to go to the high school and then pick up Jeremiah in the north of the city to bring him to practice. Writing these lines, I realize that it is easier than bringing him back home. Rather, it is more comfortable to bring him with me and have him spend the weekend by my side.

Por ahora, estamos concentrados en cubrir todos los gastos operativos para estar dentro del torneo, inscripción, la compra del uniforme, el pago a los entrenadores, entre otros. También, el día de ayer sumé a ese presupuesto, unos zapatos nuevos que tuve que comprarle, ya que los que Jeremías está usando para jugar, son los mismos que usa para ir a la escuela. Esto es lo que a veces está detrás de todas estas actividades, pero siempre el esfuerzo vale la pena. Deseando siempre que nuestros hijos puedan distraerse, hacer deporte, recrearse y sentirse bien en cuerpo y mente. Y vamos sumando, un paso a la vez.

For now, we are focused on covering all the operating expenses to be in the tournament, registration, the purchase of the uniform, the payment to the coaches, among others. Also, yesterday I added to that budget, some new shoes that I had to buy him, since the ones that Jeremías is using to play, are the same ones he uses to go to school. This is what sometimes is behind all these activities, but the effort is always worth it. Always wishing that our children can distract themselves, play sports, recreate and feel good in body and mind. And we are adding up, one step at a time.
