Winter swans waiting for the thaw

in Feathered Friends2 months ago

Hello Hello to all Hivians, Hivers and indeed any bird lovers that are reading this.

Some of my favourite posts to write on Hive are the feathered friends posts, especially as the rewards go to buying their food in the park. Speaking of which, I got my latest monthly food delivery for them today.

So let's celebrate by sharing some of our Feathered Friends this Fun Friday

The water you see is Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy Scotland a few minutes walk from me.

As you can see it was pretty much frozen and I am sure slim pickings in the way of food!

Top end frozen so the swans, ducks and goose congregate down this bottom end!

Seagull photobombing me again!

Big boy swan was standing on the ice whilst the female was having a wee potter in the water.

Time for a preen of the boy's undercarriage!

Back up onto the ice the female went..

Zoom in time.

Time for the female to do some preening. I have been feeding them quite often this winter, and I am glad the female has finally started to put some weight on.

This post though, is an entry for this week's Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 256 hosted by the wonderful @nelinoeva in the fantastic Feathered Friends community on Hive

And I shall pick this one for the entry

That was a tricky choice to make and a process of elimination. I narrowed it down to the two where both of them were standing!

This one won it because I like the wee water rings around the feet of the male swan!

What do you think? Was that your favourite?

All images were taken but the author on January 3rd at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy with his Google 9 XL Pro Smartphone camera and ramblings are also from me the author and mad Scotsman TengoLoTodo unless otherwise stated..

Looks pretty chilly. Too bad it doesn't get solid enough for you to go ice fishing! That would be a ton of fun! The cold temps here have been a boon for the fishermen this year. They just had Tip Up Town up north last weekend I think.

There is a loch near here which used to freeze completely over years ago. I rememmber my grandpa swaying they used to go curling on it. As much as I cannot stand the cold, one of my to do's is actually to go ice fishing. Do you ever do it?

Oh yes, I have been several times over the years. When the ice is really frozen over people drive their cars and trucks out there and they set up small villages way out on the ice. It's pretty crazy.

Yeah that is what I have seen on telly and why I wanted to do it lol

image.png

Oh nice! I must admit drilling into the ice is novel, always been oil & gas for me professionally lol

Looks quite ominous in a way ... the black hole.

Good thing the female swan can't hear you saying she's getting fat! Hahaha. I think you chose the best photo. A hug with wings for you.

haha you are too funny! I mean she is getting healthy, she looked far too skinny! Who likes a too skinny woman? Not me! A flying hug today

Thank you :)

Are those little creatures their offspring? All photos are nice. I can't choose which is which😌😌

Wow, that's cold. The swans must be used to the cold weather.
Today I went to the beach to see our swans. There were many in the sea and I made zillion photos. I have to find time to make a post and show them.
Your choice for entry photo with both swans is spot on.

Yeah it does not always freeze, I am pretty sure it didn't last year for example. They adapt well.
Ah yes, get some of those pictures up Neli!
