And not just that.
Within days, it managed to shake the stocks of some of the biggest chip companies in the world… while at the same time going directly after ChatGPT.
And the most interesting part?

WHAT IS TURBOQUANT
Let’s start with TurboQuant.
Google announced a new technique that can reduce the memory required by AI models by up to 6x.

This is where the first big misunderstanding happened. Because it sounds impressive. Very impressive.
But we’re not talking about all memory, only a very specific part called the KV cache.
This is essentially the model’s “working memory”, storing previous computations so they don’t have to be recalculated every time.
In simple terms, it’s what allows AI to remember what has already been said.

It can do more… with fewer resources.
So far, so good.
Or maybe not. Because as soon as this news came out, the markets reacted instantly.
Major memory companies like Micron and SanDisk saw their stocks drop.
Why?
Because investors thought something very simple. If AI needs less memory, then it will need fewer chips, and fewer chips mean less revenue for these companies.
BUT.
Major analysts, like Morgan Stanley, pointed out something very important.
There is no indication that demand for memory is decreasing. In fact, the opposite may be true.
Because when you make AI more efficient, you lower the cost.
And when you lower the cost… you change the entire game.
Suddenly, applications that were previously too expensive become viable.
Models that were too costly to run… start being used widely.
Companies that couldn’t afford to enter AI… now can.
More applications.
Heavier models.
More users.
In other words, we’re not talking about less AI, but MUCH more.
And that ultimately means greater demand for infrastructure.
More data centers.
More energy.
And yes… more memory.
So what the market feared… could end up being the exact opposite.
