Repairing a crack in the water tank / Reparando una fisura del tanque de agua

As for me, I spent it doing some DIY at home because the water supply started to come through and one of the tanks had been damaged. Here in Margarita, this is essential because the water supply is a major issue and in our area it can sometimes go up to two months without any water coming through, That’s why we have several tanks, and one of them—the one that supplies us upstairs—had had a small crack for some time. It had healed itself thanks to a corosillo bush that grew there and, miraculously, plugged it up for a while. But the last time the water came on, it started leaking again and was now emptying faster, so I had to sort that out to be able to fill it up.

Hola mis amigos de Hive y @home.solutions, espero que estén bien y disfrutaran del fin de semana, por mi parte fue de trabajo en la casa porque comenzó a llegar el agua y uno de los tanques se había dañado y aquí en Margarita es necesario porque el problema del agua es fuerte y en nuestra zona a veces pasan hasta dos meses sin llegar, por eso tenemos varios tanques y uno de ellos, el que nos surte arriba a nosotros hace tiempo tenía una pequeña fisura que se resolvió sola por una mata de corosillo que creció ahí y de milagro la tapó por un tiempo, pero la última vez que vino el agua comenzó a filtrar de nuevo y ahora se vaciaba más rápido así que tenía que resolver eso para poder llenarlo.

I’d already looked online to see how to fix it, and Matías and I got stuck into it on Saturday. We disconnected everything so we could turn the tank over and repair it, but first I took the opportunity to give it a good wash, and then I cleaned the broken part of the tank thoroughly. then I used a hot nail to make some holes, then I took a thick cable, stripped it, and took a strand of wire, which I used to ‘sew’ the tank together, pressing hard to prevent it from staying open where it was broken.

Then I took a soldering iron, removed the tip by loosening it with a screwdriver, and where the tip had been I fitted a flat-headed screw. I then plugged in the soldering iron and waited for it to heat up, and took a piece of a tank that had completely split some time ago. placed the plastic from the tank over the stitched section and, using the soldering iron, melted the plastic until the area was completely covered; I then ran the iron along the repair until I achieved a smooth surface. I also carried out this procedure on the inside of the tank to ensure everything was secure. Finally, I waited for it to cool down completely.

Yo ya había buscado cómo repararlo por Internet y con Matías nos pusimos en eso el sábado y quitamos todas las conexiones para poder voltear el tanque y repararlo, pero antes aproveché para lavarlo bien y después limpié bien donde estaba roto el tanque, luego con un clavo caliente fuí realizando unos agujeros, luego tome un cable grueso, lo pelé y tomé un pelo de alambre y con este fuí cosiendo el tanque y apretando duro para evitar que quedara abierto dónde estaba roto.

Luego tome un cautín, le retire la punta aflojandolo con un destornillador y dónde estaba la punta coloqué un tornillo con la cabeza plana, después enchufé el cautín y espere que se calentara y tomé un pedazo de un tanque que se había partido hace tiempo por completo, coloqué el plástico del tanque sobre la parte que estaba cosida y con el cautín fuí derritiendo el plástico hasta cubrir por completo la zona y luego lo fuí pasando a lo largo de la reparación hasta lograr una superficie lisa y este procedimiento lo hice también por dentro del tanque para asegurar que todo quedara bien. Ya por último espere que se enfriará bien.

Then we turned it over, put it back in place and started reconnecting everything, but unfortunately the water outlet broke. We managed to fix it temporarily with pipe sealant, but it needs replacing because it had already been repaired once before and actually lasted five years like that. but I’m going to wait until the tank empties to do that job and fill it up again. The good news is that the crack has been properly repaired and no water is leaking out, so I’m not worried on that front.

Después lo volteamos y lo pusimos en su lugar y comenzamos a poner otra vez las conexiones, pero con la mala suerte que se rompió la pieza de salida del agua, pero resolvimos momentáneamente con pega para tubería pero hay que cambiarla porque ya ella estaba reparada y de hecho duró 5 años así, pero voy a esperar a que el tanque se vacíe para hacer ese trabajo y ponerlo a llenar otra vez, pero lo bueno es que la fisura quedó bien reparada y no se bota nada del agua así que por ese lado estoy tranquilo.
