Here in Lake Atitlán we really miss @alex-rourke so much and today I'm going to tell you why.

When I arrived in the country, one of the things we were most excited about, besides the reunion of Hivians, was to visit @recording-box, Alex's recording studio.

I think to say "recording studio" is an understatement, Alex has a wonderful creative space. Beyond making available equipment, technology and adequate space, the location where the studio is housed seems to be any musician or content creator's dream home. With rooms everywhere, ready to sit down and record without having to go to a lot of work. It makes you want to go in there and not come out all day.

Por aquí en el Lago de Atitlán extrañamos mucho a @alex-rourke y hoy les voy a contar por qué.

Cuando llegué al país, una de las cosas que más nos entusiasmaba, además del reencuentro de Hivians, era visitar @recording-box, el estudio de grabación de Alex.

Creo que decir “estudio de grabaciones” es quedarse corto, Alex cuenta con un espacio creativo espectacular. Más allá de poner a disposición de los interesados los equipos, tecnología y el espacio adecuado, el emplazamiento en donde está ubicado el estudio parece ser la casa de ensueño de cualquier músico o creador de contenido. Con habitaciones por doquier, preparadas para sentarte y grabar sin tener que tomarte muchas molestias. Te dan ganas de entrar allí y no salir en todo el día.

From the entrance, it looks like a very sober house and almost hidden by a huge bush with beautiful flowers. Although if you look closely, behind that plant you will find a whole drum set hahaha.

Guitars, books, posters and stands arranged everywhere greet you saying: hey, this is the place you were looking for, shall we start?

Alex welcomed us, more than a month ago, with a huge smile and sharing the same enthusiasm as us to start the documentation process of this ambitious project: Hive Hub Guate.

And although we tend to get distracted talking about all the wonders of Hive, Alex managed to focus and guide us quickly to take advantage of the time and realize the ideas we had in mind to record with him in his studio.

Desde la entrada, parece una casa muy sobria y casi oculta por un enorme arbusto con hermosas flores. Aunque si te asomas bien, detrás de esa planta te conseguirás con un set de batería jajaja.

Guitarras, libros, carteles y sets dispuestos por doquier te reciben diciendo: hey! Este es el lugar que buscabas ¿comenzamos?

Alex nos recibió, hace ya más de un mes, con una enorme sonrisa y compartiendo el mismo entusiasmo que nosotros por comenzar el proceso de documentación de este ambicioso proyecto: Hive Hub Guate

Y aunque solemos distraernos mucho hablando de todas ls maravillas de Hive, Alex logró que nos enfocáramos y orientarnos rápidamente en aprovechar el tiempo y concretar las ideas que teníamos pensadas para grabar junto a él en su estudio.

Professional setup

We decided to start with a pretty serious, professional and new to us approach. I think I speak for everyone when I say we felt like TV stars walking into the first set hahahaha however, we needed to make it look a bit more Hive-esque, so I remembered that I had brought some stickers with me from Spain, but I had left them at the Airbnb. Ooops.

I honestly figured if we were there, and it would only take me about 20 to go get them and come back, it was worth it. Luckily we were staying in the same neighborhood as the studio and I still needed to move around a lot after so many hours of flying sitting down. When I got back it was fun to see Alex's excited face when he saw that we could put the red Hive logo stickers on the base of the microphones to make it stand out against the black of the mics.

We also used my flashy red water bottle, it turns out to be the best promotional accessory I've had so far hahaha the t-shirts are cool, but for some reason the little red bottle sticks in everyone's mind.

Decidimos comenzar con un enfoque bastante serio, profesional y nuevo para nosotros. Creo que hablo por todos cuando digo que nos sentíamos como estrellas de televisión al entrar al primer estudio jajajaja sin embargo, necesitábamos hacerlo lucir un poco más acorde a Hive, así que recordé que había traído conmigo desde España algunos stickers, pero los había dejado en el Airbnb. Ooops.

Sinceramente pensé que si estábamos allí, y solo me tomaría unos 20 ir a buscarlos y volver, valía la pena. Por suerte estábamos hospedados n el mismo barrio que el estudio y aún necesitaba moverme bastante luego de tantas horas de vuelo sentada. Cuando volví fue divertido ver la cara de entusiasmo de Alex al ver que podíamos poner los stickers con el logo rojo de Hive en la base de los micrófonos para que resaltara con el negro de estos.

También usamos mi llamativa botella roja de agua, resulta ser el mejor complemento promocional que he tenido hasta ahora jajaja las camisetas están muy bien, pero por algún motivo la botellita roja se le queda grabada en la mente a todo el mundo.

Once the Hive complements were in place, it was time to adjust the lights, cameras and sound. In addition to Alex himself, a member of his team helped us with all of this and was very patient with us, eager to take pictures of the whole process. My photos didn't come out so well with my phone, but I'm sure the result on Alex's material will be great.

Una vez ubicados los complementos de Hive, era momento de ajustar las luces, cámaras y sonido. Con todo eso nos ayudo, además del propio Alex, un trabajador de su equipo que tuvo mucha paciencia con nosotros queriendo hacer fotos de todo el proceso. No salieron tan bien mis foto con el teléfono, pero estoy segura que el resultado en el material de Alex será genial.

The first to start recording was @starkerz, I think the idea of such a professional setup got him very excited, because it didn't cost him anything to sit in front of the camera and get ready to shoot. We took turns, in a fun way and with the help of Alex's team to know where to look, with what tone to speak and what was the best way to convey our message.

Then we continue recording one by one. The ideal of this type of "interviews" is to be able to do it with each volunteer who comes to support the project and to collect the diatintas impressions throughout the process.

It is important to highlight that thanks to our ecosystem we were able to count on a professional from the media, such as @alex-rourke. In Hive there are many talented people and that a studio of this level tries to promote the creation of real content, supporting and promoting artists and independent creators, seems to me worthy of recognition and praise. Let's hope that many follow Alex's example, with such good people we can achieve many wonderful things.

El primero en comenzar a grabar fue @starkerz, creo que la idea de un setup tan profesional le entusiasmó mucho, porque no le costó nada sentarse frente a la cámara y alistarse para comenzar a grabar. Nos fuimos turnando, de forma divertida y con la ayuda del equipo de Alex para saber a dónde mirar, con que tono hablar y cuál era la mejor forma de transmitir nuestro mensaje.

Luego seguimos grabando uno a uno. Lo ideal de este tipo de “entrevistas” es poder hacerla con cada viluntario que venga a apoyar el proyecto e ir rwcopilando las diatintas impresiones a lo largo del proceso.

Importante destacar que gracias a nuestro ecosistema pudimos contar con un profesional del medio, como lo es @alex-rourke. En Hive hay muchas personas talentosas y que un estudio de este nivel intente promover la creación de contenido libre, apoyando y promoviendo a los artistas y creadores independientes, me parece digno de reconocer y alabar. Esperemos que muchos sigan el ejemplo de Alex, con gente así de buena podemos logras muchas cosas bonitas.

Podcast people!

After the pro sessions, we moved to a more relaxed environment. @buttcoins really wanted to record a podcast-like session all together, a get-together in which we exchanged impressions in a relaxed way without any scripts or a lot of technical stuff.

In this part we mainly talked about the economic model and the various opportunities offered by Hive in an everyday environment. We expressed the possible financial solutions in small communities and the immediate benefit of this in our imminent social experiment.

Luego de las sesiones pro, nos cambiamos a un ambiente más relajado. @buttcoins tenía muchas ganas de grabar una sesión tipo podcast todos juntos, una tertulia en la que intercambiamos impresiones de forma relajada sin ningún guion ni mucha técnica.

En esta parte nos dedicamos, sobre todo, a hablar del modelo económico y de las diversas oportunidades que ofrece Hive en un entorno cotidiano. Expresamos las posibles soluciones financieras en pequeñas comunidades y el beneficio inmediato de este en nuestro inminente experimento social.

Alex also showed us that in his business we could buy drinks using @v4vapp to pay with hbd, so after a couple of easy transactions there was already some soda and beer next to us at the time of recording.

It was nice to hear, share and communicate all the expectations with which we started this project. Sometimes, until you say it out loud, you don't realize how tangible an idea can be or how much our minds are working together to achieve the same goal in the most efficient way.

Recalling that fun chat, I smile at the thought of our enthusiasm and feel proud to realize that those brushstrokes of ideas are transforming into an ever sharper sketch, almost ready for us to start painting.

Alex también nos mostró que en su negocio podíamos comprar bebidas utilizando @v4vapp para pagar con hbd, así que tras un par de fáciles transacciones había ya alguna soda y cerveza junto a nosotros al momento de grabar.

Fue bonito escuchar, compartir y comunicar todas las expectativas con las que comenzamos este proyecto. A veces, hasta que no lo dices en voz alta, no te das cuenta cuán tangible puede llegar a ser una idea ni todo lo que están maquinando en común nuestras mentes para lograr alcanzar el mismo objetivo de la forma más eficiente.

Recordando esa divertida charla, sonrío al pensar en nuestro entusiasmo y me siento orgullosa al darme cuenta que esas pinceladas de ideas se están transformando en un boceto cada vez más nítido, casi listo para comenzar a pintar.
