Vegwater in Edgewater

in GEMS9 days ago

Vegwater" in Edgewater is a community garden in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The vacant lot is owned by Loyola University and I belive it is a future building site, but until then the space is providing food, flowers, and an opportunity to do some gardening for the community.

.

Notice the two butterflies flying up by the power lines! The zinnias in the gardens were attracting many bees and butterflies.

The official name is the "Vedgewater Community Garden" and features over 150 rental plots, as well as communal plots where anyone can volunteer to help grow and harvest food and flowers.

The produce from the communal plots is often donated to local organizations like the Edgewater Mutual Aid Network and Care for Real's food pantry.

I love the idea of community gardens. Such a sweet oasis in the middle of the hubbub or forgotten places. I am a little beyond helping with such things, but I still love the idea of them.

Same for me. My gardening days are a pleasant memory, though.

How good it is that unused lands are turned into such gardens. The butterflies have also given a very beautiful appearance to the photos.

City people need a bit of earth! Community gardens are such great projects.

I need to plant some Zinnas next year, my mother loves them, and didn't get to it in time this year.

I planted some in pots on my deck but only one grew and bloomed. I think it is a hazard to have so many birds and chipmunks around digging up seeds as soon as I plant them!

Beautiful garden Melinda.
I also love he idea of the community garden, a least they can make use of the land for food before it is going to be used for building.
Love those tomatoes. :)

It's great for people who live in buildings with no yards to have room to grow their own food!

This butterfly photo is really beautiful, mom, it's really very beautiful ❤️

Thanks! Flowers and butterflies are great subjects for photography!

Yes, that's right, I really like the butterfly photo, mom❤️

What a wonderful initiative.

I love how the Vedgewater Community Garden turns an otherwise unused space into something so full of life and purpose, providing food, beauty, and a spot for neighbors to connect.

The butterflies and zinnias are such a lovely reminder that even in the middle of the city, nature always finds a way.

People who live amidst so much concrete need their own little bit of earth. Community gardens are a good opportunity to connect with neighbors.
And everyone needs nature!

These natural flowers are worth seeing and the beauty of these flowers always makes the heart feel normal to forget the pain of the mind. Thank you for sharing these wonderful photographs with us today, including such an extraordinary natural landscape and the movement of beautiful butterflies. Really amazing natural garden

Being in nature is healthy and healing!

Oh yes my pleasure

The butterflies and bees visiting the garden feel even more alive and full of energy.🤗

It's so wonderful to see gardens full of life.

Yes, it really is! It makes the whole place feel alive and uplifting.

The photo of the two butterflies flying near the power lines is excellent. It is beautiful how many butterflies and bees are resting on the flowers in the garden. Tomato cultivation here has spread well, and the harvest is coming in well.

It's especially fun to see butterflies in the city!

what a beauty😍😍😍
