Brown Pelicans at the beach in Baja provide some dramatic photo opportunities.
Brown pelicans fly in these graceful tight lines (often called squadrons)
They make dramatic plunge-dives. They can spot a fish from 60 feet up and hit the water like a torpedo.
A successful fishing trip! The pelican will toss its head back to swallow the fish whole, usually head-first so the fins don't get stuck in its throat.
All photos were taken by my kids while they were on holiday in Baja California, Mexico.
Awesome photos 👍 I love watching pelicans skim along the surface disappearing behind a wave then reappearing. I spent many lunch hours on Alameda Island in the Bay area watching pelicans dive for fish.
Whoa, look at their long peaks
There are ones I see around swamps here in Lagos,
They normally use their feathers to cover a certain space of water in swampy areas and fish with their peaks.
Seems like when they cover that space with their frathers ,they would see inside the swamp and then fish 🐟 🤔 😉

These are stunning photographs. I was just reading an article on how birds are dinosaurs, and the pelicans sure fit the bill. Beautiful and unreal.
