Good Friday
Today is Good Friday, one of the most important dates, together with Christmas, in the Christian calendar, because it means the day Jesus was condemned and crucified on the cross to death, representing a day of mourning and deep reflection.
In Venezuela, a mostly Catholic country, and as in certain regions of Spain and in some Latin American countries, it is traditional to visit seven different churches or temples, as a way to commemorate the journey that almost 2000 years ago, Jesus made in what would be his last day of earthly life before his resurrection, which is celebrated on Easter Sunday.
This year, although I did not visit the seven churches according to tradition, I was in the morning hours in the neighboring town of Santa Rosa visiting the basilica, also known as the Sanctuary of the Divine Shepherdess, for being the home of this Marian devotion that originated in the early eighteenth century in the city of Seville, but in this town located on the other side of the ocean, she found her definitive abode, to such an extent that every January 14, her image is carried on the shoulders of the parishioners to travel a little more than 7.5 kilometers through the streets and avenues of the city of Barquisimeto, accompanied by more than two million devotees.
Finally, after the faithful go to church, it is customary to buy some religious souvenirs, refresh their throats with some juice or soft drink, and of course, take the respective group selfie that allows them to endorse their presence and that of their loved ones on this solemn day.

Hoy es Viernes Santo, una de las fechas, junto a la Navidad, más importantes en el calendario cristiano, porque significa el día que Jesús fué condenado y crucificado en la cruz hasta morir, representando un día de duelo y de profunda reflexión.
En Venezuela, un país mayoritariamente católico, y al igual que en ciertas regiones de España y en algunos países de América Latina; es tradicional visitar siete iglesias o templos diferentes, como una manera de conmemorar el recorrido que hace casi 2000 años atrás, realizó Jesús en lo que sería su último día de vida terrenal antes de su resurrección, la cual se celebra el venidero Domingo de Pascua.
Este año aunque no recorrí las siete iglesias de acuerdo a la tradición, si estuve en horas de la mañana en la vecina población de Santa Rosa visitando la basílica, también conocida como Santuario de la Divina Pastora, por ser el hogar de esta advocación mariana que tuvo su origen a principios del Siglo XVIII en la ciudad de Sevilla, pero que en este pueblo ubicado al otro lado del oceáno, encontró su morada definitiva, a tal punto, que cada 14 de Enero, su imagen sale en hombros de los feligreses para recorrer poco más de 7,5 kilómetros por las calles y avenidas de la ciudad de Barquisimeto, acompañada por más de dos millones de devotos.
Finalmente, luego de que los fieles acuden a la iglesia, es costumbre comprar algunos souvenirs religiosos, refrescar la garganta con algún jugo o refresco, y por supuesto, tomar la respectiva selfie grupal que permite avalar su presencia y la de sus seres queridos en esta día solemne.
