The Immaculate Conception Church, located in the central area of Barquisimeto, was the first catholic temple built in the city, dating back to the end of the XVI century when it was just an improvised and humble chapel made of adobe or tapia and a thatched roof.
Later, in the year 1633, the construction of the temple was concluded, this time with more durable materials, which included tapia pisada, and a roof of wooden planks and tiles.
Its present structure dates from 1853, when it was remodeled after it suffered great damages as a consequence of the earthquake of 1812 that affected a great part of the Venezuelan territory.
These photos from my personal archive were taken recently during the celebration of last Holy Week, during which time I took the opportunity to tour the city.
As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.
La iglesia Inmaculada Concepción, ubicada en el casco central de Barquisimeto, fué el primer templo católico construido en la ciudad, remóntandose sus origenes a finales del Siglo XVI cuando apenas era una improvisada y humilde capilla de bahareque o tapia y techo de paja.
Posteriormente, en el año 1633 se concluyó la construcción del templo, en esta oportunidad con materiales más duraderos, que incluían tapia pisada, y un techo de tablas de madera y tejas.
Su actual estructura data de 1853, cuando fué remodelada luego de que sufriese grandes daños como consecuencia del terremoto de 1812 que afectó gran parte del territorio venezolano.
Estas fotos de mi archivo personal, las tomé recientemente durante la celebración de la pasada Semana Santa, tiempo durante el cual aproveché para recorrer la ciudad.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
