The 2023 Australia 1 oz Silver 50th Anniversary of Sydney Opera House coin has a really cool design.
The Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous and iconic buildings in the World. I never really thought about how old it was because it has been around as long as I can remember. Being a kid and not caring about famous buildings and not knowing the opera house was being built I was thinking it was much older.
From what I read on the wiki page it took 16 years from the time the design was chosen until it finally opened. There are several factors that came into play on why it took so long but it would be to much to put here in my post so I recommend going to the wiki page and checking it out. The Opera house has a very interesting history and if I ever make it to Australia it will be a must to visit.
The obverse side features Jody Clark's design of the memorial depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. It is a reverse proof design with the Queens image in the center and the inscription ELIZABETH II 1952-2022, AUSTRALIA 2023, 1 DOLLAR.
The Reverse side features the west view of the Sydney Opera House across the center with 1 oz .999 Ag on the bottom right. Just under the image is the words Sydney Opera House and a depiction of the ocean from the Sydney harbour at the bottom. On the top right is the 50 year anniversary logo with half circle lines in the background.
