El jugo de guayaba es uno de los jugos más comunes y demandados que existen, al menos por acá. Su preparación es sencilla, rápida y lleva muy pocos ingredientes. Por eso aproveché la oportunidad de tener cinco guayabas que me regalaron, para hacerlo. En realidad lo que verdaderamente me hubiera gustado, era hacer unos sabrosos cascos de guayaba, pero con cinco no era suficiente, así que será en otro momento. En mi patio tengo una mata pero aún es una bebé y no ha dado frutos.

Guava juice is one of the most common and in-demand juices out there, at least around here. Its preparation is simple, quick, and requires very few ingredients. So, I took the opportunity of having five guavas that were given to me to make some. Honestly, what I would have really liked was to make some tasty guava shells in syrup, but with only five, it wasn't enough, so that will be for another time. I have a guava tree in my yard, but it's still a baby and hasn't borne fruit yet.
Guava is a delicious tropical fruit full of properties and benefits. It's much more than just a fruit; it's a kind of symbol of the tropics due to its abundance and consumption. It originates from Central and South America. I've found that there are many varieties of guava, but two stand out, based on the color of the flesh. I'm talking about those with white or pale yellow flesh and those with pink flesh. Generally, the pink-fleshed ones tend to be sweeter and more aromatic than the others.
Guava also varies in shape, which can be round, oval, or pear-shaped; the latter are called, around here, Peruvian guavas. Some have thin skin and others thick skin. Today's guavas have thin skin. Guavas have many small, hard seeds that are also eaten and help clean the intestines, although they are not recommended for people suffering from diverticulitis.
The flavor of guava is unique and hard to compare, a mix of sweet and sour. Its smell is intense and penetrating and can fill an entire room. I love the smell of guava. Guava is highly nutritious, famous for its high Vitamin C content. As a fun fact, a single guava can contain 4 times more vitamin C than an orange. Furthermore, it is rich in fiber, which is excellent for digestion; Vitamin A, which is good for eyesight and skin; Potassium, which helps hypertensive people regulate blood pressure. It's a great antioxidant and contains Folic Acid, important for cell creation and also called the "vitamin of life."
It can be consumed in different ways. Naturally, simply wash it and take a bite like an apple; some prefer to peel it, but I don't. It can also be consumed in juices and smoothies (in this case, milk is added, and the result is an exquisite drink). Jams, preserves, and the delicious and well-known guava shells can be made. In some cuisines, it's used to make sweet and sour sauces to accompany meats. Another use for guava is its leaves, which are used to make Guava Leaf Tea, very good for digestion. And also, these boiled leaves are good for certain skin rashes. I remember when my children were small, doctors would recommend bathing them with boiled guava leaves due to their anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.
Guava is also present in popular sayings. For example, here in Cuba, that word is synonymous with a lie. If you're talking to someone and they say: "That's a huge guava," they are calling you a liar 🤭. Experts say it's the "fruit of the poor" because it's very resistant and bears fruit without needing much care. In short, it's a fruit with many uses, but it's time to get to the point.

☀️This recipe, ideal for breakfasts and snacks, requires few INGREDIENTS:
_Guava, water, sugar, and what can never be missing, a pinch of salt.
- 5 guayabas medianas.
- Litro y medio de agua
- 2 cucharones de azúcar de de 6 onzas (puede ser más o menos, en dependencia del gusto personal).
- Sal ( una pizca).
☀️PROPORTIONS for five 9-ounce glasses:
- 5 medium guavas.
- 1.5 liters of water
- 2 scoops of sugar of 6 ounces each (can be more or less, depending on personal taste).
- Salt (a pinch).
- Lo primeros es lavar bien las manos y las guayabas.
- Constatar que las guayabas estén en buen estado (en ocasiones pueden tener gusanos)
- Si lo desea puede retirar la cáscara, yo prefiero no hacerlo.
- Si las guayabas están bien maduras, (como es el caso) no es necesario cortarlas.
- Colocarlas en la licuadora junto con el agua, el azúcar y la pizca de sal.
- Licuar a primera velocidad durante 15 segundos, luego pasar a la segunda velocidad por 20 segundos más.
- La consistencia de la bebida es al gusto del consumidor. Yo lo prefiero terminó medio, ni muy líquido ni muy espeso.
- Colarlo y listo.
- Poner en el congelador unos minutos para enfriar bien.
- Servir y a degustar.
☀️PROCEDURE:
- The first thing is to wash your hands and the guavas well.
- Check that the guavas are in good condition (sometimes they can have worms).
- If you wish, you can remove the peel; I prefer not to.
- If the guavas are very ripe (as in this case), it's not necessary to cut them.
- Place them in the blender along with the water, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
- Blend at low speed for 15 seconds, then switch to medium speed for another 20 seconds.
- The consistency of the drink is according to the consumer's taste. I prefer it medium, neither too liquid nor too thick.
- Strain it and it's ready.
- Place it in the freezer for a few minutes to cool well.
- Serve and enjoy.
