El "Parque de las palomas", como es conocido popularmente este sitio por los habaneros y cubanos en general, tiene por nombre real "Plaza de San Francisco de Asís" y es una de las más bellas de la capital cubana. Se encuentra ubicada entre las calles oficio y la Alameda de Paula.

"The Pigeon Park," as this site is popularly known by Havanans and Cubans in general, is actually named the "Plaza de San Francisco de Asís" and is one of the most beautiful in the Cuban capital. It is located between Oficio Street and the Alameda de Paula.
Esta plaza es un lugar "mágico", que trasmite paz y a la vez, nos remonta a tiempos muy lejanos. Ver como las palomas se pasean entre las personas sin el más mínimo susto o temor, es un espectáculo increíble y adorable. Posee hermosas vistas y es ideal para tomar muchas fotografias.
This square is a"magical" place, transmitting peace and, at the same time, transporting us to distant times. Seeing the pigeons stroll among people without the slightest fright or fear is an incredible and adorable spectacle. It offers beautiful views and is ideal for taking many photographs. ️

El "Parque de las palomas" está rodeado de varios edificios importantes como la Longa del Comercio con su estatua del dios Mercurio en la parte superior, sitio muy concurrido ya que allí funciona el Consulado de España. Otro de los edificios que se destaca es la Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís San Francisco de Asís, la que da nombre a la plaza y donde actualmente hay una sala de conciertos, una joya bien conservada por la Oficina del Historiador de La ciudad.
"The Pigeon Park" is surrounded by several important buildings such as the Lonja del Comercio with its statue of the god Mercury at the top, a very busy site since the Spanish Consulate operates there. Another notable building is the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, which gives the square its name and where there is currently a concert hall, a well-preserved jewel maintained by the City Historian's Office.
Como dato curioso les cuento que existe una leyendas acerca del Convento de San Francisco que habla de un fraile que interpretó, desde el campanario, el “toque a agonía”, un duelo por el fallecimiento de la joven que él había amado y con la que no pudo contraer matrimonio. Y él, enamorado, tomó los hábitos. Dicen que tras finalizar la interpretación, el viento ocultó su rostro tras la capucha de fraile y al no ver cayó el vacío. Otra versión dice que, desconsolado, prefirió partir junto ella hacia la eternidad.

Esta es una zona colonial como toda la Habana Vieja, donde existen muy pocas construcciones modernas. Hay hoteles, cafés, restaurantes, tiendas, hostales. Justo en la acera, frenta al convento, hay una estatua del célebre Caballero de París, un emigrante español que perdió la cabeza al ser encarcelado injustamente, y se convirtió en un peculuar y carismático personaje, uno de los mendigos más queridos de La Habana.
This is a colonial area like all of Old Havana,where there are very few modern constructions. There are hotels, cafes, restaurants, shops, hostels. Right on the sidewalk, in front of the convent, there is a statue of the famous "Caballero de París," a Spanish immigrant who lost his mind after being unjustly imprisoned and became a peculiar and charismatic character, one of Havana's most beloved beggars.
Esta plaza tiene una hermosa fuente, la "Fuente de los Leones", donde los niños y las niñas juegan y corretean a su alrededor. Pienso que son ellos quienes más disfrutan este magnífico espectáculo de las palomas volando y revoleteando entre los visitantes. Increiblemente, estas palomas son mansas y aceptan comida de la mano de las personas.
This square has a beautiful fountain, the "Fuente de los Leones," where children play and run around it. I think they are the ones who enjoy this magnificent spectacle of pigeons flying and fluttering among the visitors the most. Incredibly, these pigeons are tame and accept food from people's hands.

La Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, es además, uno de los tantos sitios patrimoniales que hay en La Habana Vieja. En la parte trasera del edificio hay un jardín en homenaje a Madre Teresa de Calcuta y una escultura con su imagen, donde las personas colocan flores con frecuencia. Allí también descansan los restos de nuestro Eusebio Leal, Historiador de la ciudad. En un banco de la Plaza hay una escultura de Federico Chopin, el más universal de los músicos de Polonia.
The Plaza de San Francisco de Asís is also one of the many heritage sites in Old Havana.At the rear of the building, there is a garden in homage to Mother Teresa of Calcutta and a sculpture with her image, where people frequently place flowers. There also rest the remains of our Eusebio Leal, Historian of the City. On a bench in the square, there is a sculpture of Frédéric Chopin, the most universal of Polish musicians.
Este es un lugar con el color del tiempo, es de los más concurridos en la capital cubana, está muy cerca de la zona del puerto y de los atraques, donde hasta hace unos años, fondeaban los cruceros, de donde bajaban miles de turistas de diferentes partes del mundo a admirar y disfrutar de las maravillas de Cuba. Visitarlo es casi obligatorio si andas por esta parte de la ciudad de La Habana.
This is a place with the color of time, one of the busiest in the Cuban capital. It is very close to the port area and the docks, where, until a few years ago, cruise ships anchored, from which thousands of tourists from different parts of the world disembarked to admire and enjoy the wonders of Cuba. Visiting it is almost mandatory if you are in this part of Havana.
