Ooway! Aadivay!
Adivay means coming together to have fun. It is an Ibaloi word. Ibaloi is an ethnic group from the Cordillera Region located in Northern Luzon, Philippines.
In coming together and having fun, it means dancing, singing, chanting, telling stories and the like. In celebrating the Adivay festival, there is the grand cañao where all the municipalities and the people of Benguet come together and have a feast. Each municipality butchers pig/ pigs for consumption of the attendees.
There are other activities too in the month long celebration which includes concerts, battle of the bands, pageant, grand parade, agro tourism fair and a lot more.
This photo was taken after the parade which started from Benguet Provincial Capitol up to the Benguet Provincial Sports Complex.
This photo was taken while some of the attendees, particularly in the tent set up by the Municipality of Tublay, Benguet are starting their tayaw dance.
I missed a lot in the events of the 2024 Adivay. These are just few pictures I took.
