Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Commander Slade.
Featured cards
Yodin Zaku is a fire summoner that costs 7 mana. This summoner gives all monsters +1 ranged attack, +1 health, and the blast. As a summoner, it is amazing, and even at level 1, it is a beast when combined with the right cards. I like using this card, but I stopped when I moved to modern. So I like the free wild pass season as I can use Yodin Zaku again.
Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Shades of Grey, Melee Mayhem, and Target Practice. This means that only neutral monsters can be used, ranged/magic monsters gain the snipe ability, and melee monsters can attack from anwhere. There are also 40 mana available, and I can choose any splinter except for life.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Yodin Zaku | 7 | Summoner | +1 ranged, health and blast |
Chain Golem | 8 | 1st | Shield |
Venari Marksrat | 3 | 2nd | Martyr |
Prismatic Energy | 8 | 3rd | Magic Reflect |
Mantaroth | 11 | 4th | Armored Strike and Shield |
Arkemis the Bear | 12 | 5th | Protect |
Cornealus | 10 | 6th | Heal |
Total Mana: | 59 |
I use Yodin Zaku as my summoner for the abilities listed above, but mainly because it works well with the Target Practice ruleset. In my first spot is Chain Golem as my tank with shield. After that is Venari Marksrat with martyr, and I think it's a good chance it will buff my cards due to that Target Practice. After that is Prismatic Energy with magic reflect. I have Mantaroth as a damage dealer due to the armored strike, and its even better when combined with Arkemis afterwards because the protect will increase that armored strike damage. Last is Cornealus with heal to deal with any sneak monsters.
I take advantage of the ruleset to use Yodin. The blast will hit 3 monsters so long as there is a ranged/magic monster in his later lineup. I might lose a few card levels, but the damage does add up. Martyr will help out my monsters so long as there are a few ranged or magic monsters on the opponent's side. I also take advantage of the melee mayhem by combining Mantaroth and Arkemis. Lastly, I am protected from any sneak monsters with Cornealus.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. The blast, combined with my magic monster, will take out that tank up front. After that, there shouldn't be too much to worry about in my opponent's lineup. It's too bad that there are no magic monsters so Prism's magic reflect will be wasted, but at least it does reduce some of the damage that my tank will take.
Round 2
My opponent lost 2 monsters while I lost 1. However, my lineup is fairly healthy. I don't think there is any way for me to lose because my tank will survive a few rounds, and so long as I deal a few attacks, the rest of the monsters should go down without any issues.
I ended up winning this match a few rounds later, as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out how I wanted it to. Given the ruleset, Yodin was a great pick, and I also took advantage of the melee monsters through melee mayhem. With all those strong monsters in my llienup, I made the most of the mana cap and destroyed my opponent with what I had. I am glad that I had a magic monster combined with Yodin as it made dealing with that first tank much easier.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
