Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Pelacor Mercenary is a great tank

in Splinterlands9 days ago

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Pelacor Mercenary.

Featured cards

Pelacor Mercenary is a earth monster that costs 10 mana. It starts with flying. It learns heal at level 6 and retaliate at level 10. I used this card quite a bit in the previous season of Modern when Chaos Legion was available. It's a good card given the mana cost, and the flying helps it dodge a few attacks. Even if magic damages it, the heal is there to help it survive.

Lobb Lowland is an Earth summoner that gives -1 speed and access to a gladiator. It's a fairly good summoner because some of the gladiators, such as Quora or Katrelba Gobson, are great. They can be amazingly powerful damage dealers because of that bloodlust ability.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Four's a Crowd, Might Makes Right, and Deflection Field. This means that only monsters with 3 attack or higher can be used, 4 monsters can be used, and all monsters gain the deflect ability. There is also 31 mana available, and I can use only earth splinter.

Total Mana:31

I use Lobb Lowland for its abilities. Pelacor Mercenary is my tank for its abilities, and Beatrix Ironhand is my close range. Then I have Katrelba Gobson as one of my main damage dealers with sneak, bloodlust, and double strike. My last monster is Hunter Jarx with snipe.

My plan is to have Pelacor Mercenary tank the hits, while the rest of my lineup focuses on damage. My main damage dealer will have to be Katrelba Gobson, with the rest playing more as backup in the worst-case scenario.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that my opponent has the advantage. That last monster will be a pain to kill, and my main damage dealer could easily die to it if I am unlucky. The only good thing is that my opponent put a thorns monster up front, but that is worthless due to the ruleset.

Round 3

My Katrelba is dead, and things aren't looking so great for me in this match. I could potentially turn things around if I could kill off my opponent's tank and finish off his Katrelba Gobson, but it seems unlikely unless my opponent misses quite a few attacks.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds later because I got lucky. I was a bit surprised to see this, though.

Conclusion

The battle this time did not play out as I expected. I was not expecting that retaliate monster in the back as that killed off my main damage dealer. I was lucky enough to have the rest of my lineup pull through, and I am glad that Pelacor Mercenary dodged those last few attacks. Those heals put in work as they kept Pelacor alive until the very end of the match. Sometimes, you never know what will happen, but I almost gave up when I saw the lineup I was against. I had to double check what went on after I saw the result screen.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Pelacor Mercenary is now wild card and can be played with Llama pretty well :D

Yea. I don't have Llama, but it reminds me of the Kron/Llama combination.

This card becomes great when it gets heal, fly+heal make it very strong

Yea. Those two abilities make it a good tank.
