Forgotten Fruit

in The City of Neoxian20 days ago

It is really sad to see the state of this plant now, because it was one of the wild fruit that I really happy to see, and the one that I always looking for when I was a kid. My grandparents from my mother side, used to take me to their field, which we usually do on foot. And on the way to the field, we passed some of the unattended land plot, and this wild fruit grew there, and its the things that get me excited to harvest them and too eat them along the road.

Last time when I was on my photo hunt, I notice this plant grow well in the area behind my parents house. A lot of them were ripe, and of course I had to pick some of them and eat it on the spot because I know how tasty they are.

They grow actually in close proximity to the path where so many people use, but no one even want to take a look at this plant, and despite their bright colored fruit, seems nobody care about them anymore, kinda a forgotten fruit. Very sad state for sure.

It has such a beutiful flower, with five white petals that resemble rose, the only difference is thier size, as this plant's flower usually very small.
This plant is Rubus rosifolius. Rubus rosifolius, (sometimes spelled Rubus rosaefolius), also known as roseleaf bramble, Mauritius raspberry, thimbleberry, Vanuatu raspberry and bramble of the Cape is a species of prickly subshrub. Despite the Mauritus and Vanuatu name on it, they are actually native to India and South East Asian, where they then spread out to the other part of the world.

Its young fruit.

The only problem that I have for this wild plant is that they have so many thorns on their vine, which make it hard to harvest, especially in they are well overgroen, and the fruits were hiding behind those sharp thorns.

Can you imagine how it feels like if those fangs looking thorn cut your skin? the cut can be quite painfull. hahaha

The other thing that might make this wild plant forgotten is that because of the elder usually said that the fruits are actually food for snake, that might be the reason not many people want to harvest the fruit. That makes sense to keep the kids out of their thorny vine, and as I mention that they can be overgrown, there might be a chance that some dangerous snake might be hiding somewhere on the plant that might be dangerous for the kids.

And yeah, of course I have to pick some of them and brought them home to show to my son, and ask him to give it a try. At least that was my idea. But the problem was, my wife also didn't know that they are edible, so she let him play with the fruit, but didn't let him eat it. Once I saw them again, it was mushed, and already on the floor as the result of how my son play with it.
hahah, maybe next time I will try to harvest them again, and let my son give it a try.

That looks tasty! No one eats it though anymore? What a shame, if it's wild and free you should take advantage! Great macro shots my friend!

I think they are pretty abandon and forgotten lately, which is really such a shame considering the color and the taste of this fruit.

Lol, the fruit looks a bit peculiar, a bit different from the ones that a generally known. On one angle, it does look similar to a strawberry. Hopefully next time around, both of them can give it a try :)

The color is so nice, bright and appetizing. hopefully yes, and hopefully he will like it.

It’s great how something as simple as a wild fruit can spark so much joy and nostalgia. Good that you’re sharing this with your son, letting him discover and connect with nature just like you did.

Yes that is right, sometimes nostalgia can come from evey little things aroun dus that we used to love so much in the past.

Exactly! Even the smallest things we once loved can suddenly bring a rush of memories.
