BURN dCity NFTs - WIN PRIZES!!!

in Hive Gaming22 days ago

dCity is Closed. The Community Treasury Is Opening.

If you once played dCity - you are probably aware that the game has shut down, the team is done and their side project beeswap is shut down as well. There are details, stories soon to become history - and I will try to address the important things today including:

If you have dCity NFTs still, I am giving away (extra) money!!

So be sure to actually read this post.

dCity announced its wind-down on October 16, 2025. The official game node is gone. The game is over.

But here is something many players might not realize: your CITY NFTs are still sitting on Hive Engine, and they still have SIM locked inside them.

The game closed. The blockchain did not.

This all is in line with what has become somewhat of a theme for me - I have been writing about what "Hive Engine" actually is, and why certain things survive while others do not.

The NFT contract is one of the genuinely quite decentralized pieces of that stack. It runs "on-chain", everything is still there. Nobody turned it off, and the local nodes still hold the state.

What this means for you practically: there is SIM in your cards, and you can get it out right now.

The Burn Tool

My team at @Open.Mithril built this:

https://alextrapp.github.io/burnDcity/

No backend. No server. No middleman. It runs entirely in your browser against public Hive Engine nodes. You connect with Hive Keychain, load your CITY cards, and burn them individually or in batches of up to 250. The SIM releases directly to your wallet on each transaction.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Burns are irreversible. The cards will be gone. The SIM, worth very little, will be yours. If you want to keep your NFTs as permanent collectible bits of data - do not participate in this contest!
  • Combined cards release their inner CITY cards first when burned. Those inner cards will appear after a reload, then you can burn them too. The interface loads once and optimistically deletes NFTs burnt. Use the reload button to get a fresh real status of your NFTs.
  • You need your active key in Keychain — which you almost certainly already have if you played dCity at all.

That is it. A few minutes, maybe less (maybe a bit more if you have tens of thousands of dCity NFTs).

Why You Actually Want That SIM Right Now

This is the part where I think this all gets interesting.

The dCity team is not completely done. They are running a final claim drop — approximately 70,000 HIVE — for their community. The entry mechanism: burn SIM to get entries. 1,000,000 SIM per entry.

The team reached out to us at @Open.Mithril to help them run that event. We are paying attention. We are already logging the NFT burns happening right now. And when the dCity team makes their finaly, official announcement we want to see you ready and paying attention as well.

The SIM inside your CITY NFTs is not a consolation prize, NFT snapshot was taken months ago, although its unclear how or if it will be userd. This now is your preparation step.

If you have cards sitting in your wallet and you did not know about all this — now you know. Burn the cards, recover the SIM, hold it until gerber drops the signal (soon TM).

What We Are Offering

To celebrate the tool, celebrate 8 years of dCity, celebrate the collaboration with the dCity team, and celebrate the fact that Hive Engine NFTs just work long after the game stops — we are putting up prizes.

Prize pool:

  • 🥇 1 LTC (in prizes across winners)
  • 🎮 @Three.Legacy starter packs — entry into our recently launched idle dynasty game on HIVE - in collaboration with @josephsavage.

We are logging the burns. We will be watching participation. Exact prize distribution will be announced alongside or just before/after the official dCity SIM burn event. Sharing this post, commenting below, and spreading the word is very much encouraged — (it is also how you get upvotes on HIVE, which does not hurt anyone).

A Brief Word on @Three.Legacy

ThreeLegacyCombinedBanner.png

Special thanks to @thecrazygm for making the Nano Banana images in this post!

Since we continue to build on HIVE and are aiming to be handing out starter tokens, it seems fair to tell you what those "packs" actually are for.

Three.Legacy is an idle dynasty game with blockchain backing — you cultivate an alien civilization across generations, permanently. Every birth creates a real ancestral connection to other players.

Your lineage lives forever in the game regardless of what you do later or how active you remain. Your household has limited autonomy anyway.

The core mechanic: every alien can only have three offspring. Ever. That scarcity drives everything — the strategy, the negotiation, the economics.

Pack tiers start at $1 (Starter Mini) - this minimum level to start will one day be "free to play", players at this level are currently helping us test the minimum viable entry. When we launch free2play, all players who paid one dollar or more will also get the free drop. @three.legacy accepts payment HIVE, HBD, SWAP.HIVE, or HSBIDAO. We are building the frontend right now — this is the ground floor.

Check out @three.legacy for the full lore and economics breakdown if you want to find out more information. If spending money is not your thing, be sure to check out MOON for a fun HIVE browser game that's completely free to play.

It's called Marketing. Get over it!!

What To Do Right Now

  1. Go to https://alextrapp.github.io/burnDcity/
  2. Put in your username, see your dCity cards
  3. Burn your CITY cards, all of them or by Type. Recover locked SIM
  4. Hold that SIM for the official event announcement.
  5. Comment below — tell us how many cards you burned, how much SIM you recovered, whatever is on your mind

dCity closed. The treasury is yours.

I didn't play DC City, but I appreciate the effort and commitment to the community. I think the work they're doing is excellent; it builds trust in Hive. Thank you for that.

I recovered 4210 SIM from 332 burnt cards! The vast majority were workers, then basic homes, and finally farms. It was your standard city, possibly even decent to live in. I tried to have at least one of every type of building, where possible. I thought it might keep my imaginary citizens happy even though that wasn't a mechanic. I remember the early days of struggling to have enough workers to keep all my buildings running. I especially liked the randomness of paying off student debt and potentially getting a high value citizen. I sold a lot of dead people and criminals...

Regarding the claim drop, what about those of us who aren't SIMillionaires? I didn't come very close. Do we still have a chance at getting something? Was it all for nothing?

Yes, in fact although to actually claim you need 1M - there is a swap pool so on the margins people can buy or sell around the expected price. As people are still waking up, and we don't know yet how many exact or estimated HIVE each 1M sim will get - its a bit of a gamble still!

If we choose to burn the NFT, how it will affect our compensation? Is it beneficial, something extra if we do not burn?

Important questions! It's like this - the team took a snapshot of NFTs almost 6 months ago. Any "compensation" is already accounted for. This is the path for something extra, to burn them for the SIM.

Wow, Recovered 4021 SIM I had already forgotten about.

Thank you for participating! Good to hear from you!!

dCity died because of SIM inflation, but something fresh is emerging with no inflationary tokens, Hive in and Hive out ...just have a first look! @mydempire

I appreciate that you are building, and I do like the sustainable fund model!

Although your conclusion is completely reductionist and shows a complete lack of understanding of dCity and the 8 years of its existence, I can forgive that 😅

The fact that there is still 70,000 HIVE to distribute is a testament to that - I think "nothing lasts forever" is a more honest conclusion from dCity experience.

But - that doesn't mean new games can't do better, make changes and continue to innovate - and I appreciate those that do these things.

I do appreciate your comment. I would really like to know the main reason behind failure of dcity after 8 years, despite of good no of active players. What went wrong?
