Creating an OP Unit To Carry Your Team

Greeting Fellow Splinterlands Summoners

This week is a hard one for me, I do not participate in all available brawls and missed out a few day rank battles. So my energy points has been sitting on 50/50 for a couple of days.

There isn't many thing I could talk in this opportunity regarding my recent low activity, so I will try to share some old topic. It is an old meta that old players liked to use in the past.

It is an old school meta when you bring in one strong card and buff it as hard as you can, up to a level where it is impossible to kill that one or withstand their attack. In the past people using Quora Towershead and exploit her ridiculous high attributes with the bloodlust effect.

But this post is not about Quora Towershead anyway. As Splinterlands progressed and evolved, we have been getting many new cards, new abilities and new rulesets. These things create more opportunity and more variation you can get even by doing the same basic concept.

I remember there were days when people were so fomo with Coeurl Lurker. I met many opponents using this card everyday for months. The meta was simple, buff speed as many you can to him, add up with a rage effect, then none could hit him at all lol.

You can debate that Coeurl Lurker has gone to wild battle so nobody uses it anymore. However I believe many new cards with dispel, true aim, and some ruleset make Coeurl Lurker is not as ridiculous OP like in the past.

So let me try to create a new line up using the same concept.

I pick this one, Flagulon Reine as my core card. He is a Legendary gladiator card, so he has that bloodlust ability as the trademark of all gladiator cards.

In the past he was a menace, because not many units had that blast ability. Currently he is so decent, sometime it is hard to believe this dude is a Legendary Gladiator.

Is He Still Useful?

In general I would say no. However element of surprise is something that could give you a big advantage over some opponents. Getting a line up with some meta that we are not expecting at all is become like a decisive point of a victory.

So I will share you a battle here, when I try to make him as OP as I can, although it would not be a real OP regarding his wimpy magic damage. But still a dangerous one and often give me a victory.

This is the battle, I think both of us have the same average level in cards, my team actually a bit lower but I have that Nighoggr Legendary summoner. It is not a big gap because they have good summoner too.

Nothing noticable about the ruleset except that both of us can use a gladiator cards I am pretty much surprised that my opponent did not want to use any gladiator cards, because during this ruleset, what commonly happens is that people deliver their best gladiator out.

I want to use Captain Katie regarding she is my strongest gladiator now. However I want to use a meta which relies heavily on one core card, right? then this is the way.

Lol... Not so OP right? He has low magic damage and low speed to start with and that's hard to lift this dude up due to that two bad attributes. However I can make him having a blast ability and an execute ability, which is currently one of the most lethal ability combo.

He will keep doing double strike to kill which is triggered by the execute ability regardless it is from his main attack or from blast effect.

First Kill

The first kill is done by Flagulon Reine, he kills that Pallus. When Flagulon Reine delivers his first attack, the blast effect damage Pallus so the bird has 2 health point left. This trigger Flagulon execute ability, so he delivers the final blow which kills that bird.

Second Kill

Flagulon Reine does the second kill in this battle too. His target is Bella Dallin. Bella Dallin withstands Flagulon attack, but having 1 health point left triggers the execute ability, this makes Flagulon Reine delivers the final blow.

Two round, two kills, that's sound great isn't it?

The Rest Is History

Round 3 starts with Flagulon Reine having 4 magic damage and 6 speed. At this point my opponent has already lost the battle. The reason is simple, I have all three big hitters with execute and they are faster than my opponent. So they will take out one by one first, leaving none left.

The key unit in this battle is definitely Flagulon Reine. He manages to carry up the whole team. Flagulon Reine is showing a strong performance, and yes you can say he is not at OP level, but he surely lives up for the expectation.

In the past this was the most simple but one of the favorite meta than people loved because you did not have to twist your head too much. Put your faith in some super strong units and let the rest of your team support him or her.

So what do you think about this old school meta, creating an OP unit to carry up your team? Do you think it is still available for current era, or you think it is already expired one and my win here is just some lucky shot?

Well in my opinion, this meta is still working very well, however it turns from being the simple meta into a complicated one. The current cards have so many counters, as if we have some counters for all kind of meta, that's why relying on one single unit is not popular anymore.

Ok that's for today post. Feel free to leave your feedback below, and Thank you for your visit here. See you in Splinterlands Battles!!!
