Efo Riro is a very common food in the Yoruba land and in every Yoruba party, you find this soup among the lists of soup available.
This morning, I decided to make Efo Riro with you all and I’ll also share my recipe with you all.
To make Efo Riro, here are the ingredients we need:
Palm oil
Vegetable leaf
Pepper
Locust Beans
Onions
Fish
Making Efo Riro, the first thing to do is pour the palm oil into a hot, dry pot, leaving it to boil well and adding my onions.
Frying onions with the palm oil adds a greater taste to it and the next step is adding the pepper, locust beans, fish and seasoning.
When making Efo Riro, it is important to note that frying the stew has to be perfect so the Efo Riro can come out with a great taste.
So, I added my pepper at first, then my locust beans and my fish.
Here, I have added my seasoning and every necessary thing waiting for the pepper to fry perfectly but while doing that, the vegetable leaf will be poured in a boiling water to wash it well and that way, the water in the vegetable leaf will be squeezed before pouring the leaf into the frying pepper.
I waited five minutes to do that then I seived the water from the leaf before pouring it into the frying pepper. That’s just so easy and if you have gotten to this part of cooking Efo Riro, it meand you’re almost done.
The next and last thing is to mix the pepper well with the stew. The leaf also has its scent and taste but it never comes out well without the help of pepper and that’s why pepper is important in making Efo Riro.
Here is the result of my Efo Riro. It tastes good and it can be eaten with Amala, Rice and other solid meals.
