"If a man is lucky, his good fortune is incalculable. Throw him into the Euphrates and, as if nothing had happened, he'll emerge with a pearl in his hand."
Babylonian Proverb
The other day I was reading a book called "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason. Coincidentally, that same week I went to an office to carry some folders.
As soon as I walked in, I was amazed by this plant.

So, as I handed out the folders, I wondered how I could get just one of those plants.
I guess there are never enough at home; I always want a species I don't have. So that day, an opportunity awaited me.
I handed in the folders and plucked up the courage to ask for a cutting.
Luckily, they gave me one.

Quick break: If you liked these photos, I invite you to try taking photos with your camera's flash on. That's what I used, and as you'll see, the result is beautiful. I didn't need any editing apps to achieve it.
So, I spent the whole day happy with my new plant. Honestly, it gives me a lot of satisfaction.
When I got home that day, there was no power. The night before, the power transformer blew, so the street where I live was without electricity for almost two days.
Before that, I took some photos at the office, some of which I published in black and white. I'll save the others for this post because I wanted to tell you all about this feat in detail.

Once home, I took advantage of the remaining sunlight at six in the evening to plant it.
I had yet to cut a cactus to recover it, as the humidity from the rain had caused some parts to rot.

I planted it with this cactus, mainly because they don't require excessive water.
I also took my pot and placed it in the kitchen. I have to take care of these plants, otherwise, the rain these months will wreak havoc on them.
So the best thing for these plants that are sensitive to excess moisture is to protect them until the rainy season ends.
Just like they do in countries where winters are snowy. According to videos from other plant lovers, I've seen that when the rainy season arrives, they protect their sensitive plants indoors.
In this process, they optimize the location, with warm lighting that can provide them with a little warmth and light.
So I've decided to take these observations into account for my plants.
With this, I hope they will stay healthy, and I will have fewer losses in ornamental plants than in previous years, where the humidity from the rains killed some of them.
Fortunately, I've managed to recover my number of plants by carefully caring for them and ensuring they're all in an appropriate space.
All of this takes time, as the plants gradually grow and improve. But that's not an obstacle for me, because I really like to enjoy this process, while observing every little change.
I think having plants is quite interesting. Especially when you can keep an eye on everything.

Update:
I wrote this post a few days ago and saved it in drafts, mainly because I like to write when I'm inspired. It keeps the idea in my head, plus it flows with the emotion of the moment.
Today, May 27, 2025, I decided to publish it because I have a decent and important update: The plant is doing very well.

As you'll see from this part of the plant, I suspected I could get roots from it. So I planted this part.
Fortunately, the plant has already taken root in the pot. So, ladies and gentlemen, I have the wonderful news: there's a new plant at home. :)

Could we say it was luck? I say it's that magnet we plant lovers have.
