For a mother of two little children, rest isn't always that simple. Especially not this week.
If I were to describe how I recharge this week, I'd say I do it with one eye open, one hand holding a warm baby, another hand checking the temperature of my other baby and a mind that never really shut down.
This week has been a bit of a struggle for me as my 9months old baby is trying to grow her first two teeth and it has come with sleepless nights and persistent fevers especially in the night.
As her mother and her first line of comfort, it's my responsibility to wake up countless times each night to nurse her, feel her warmth, give her the necessary medication and most especially press a cold towel gently to her body when the fever persist.
Then in the morning, even when I feel weak and my eye ache, I have to rise early and prepare my eldest daughter for school. I have to make sure her uniform is clean and well ironed. I have to prepare her breakfast and pack her lunch too. As a mother, you just have to move, even when your tired.
When the baby finally sleeps and my older daughter is off to school, I finally get time to rest and this few hours are highly treasured. Sometimes I don't sleep, I just sit down, no body movements, no sound, just resting my mind and body.
After those cherished hour of rest, I have to get up again and clean the house. I'll start by cleaning the kitchen and folding the laundry and preparing food for my baby. Sometimes, I store leftover food in the fridge and it has helped me alot, especially when am very tired to cook. I just have to warm it, when my baby gets home from school.
The love I have for my children is what gives me strength to keeps moving, and I can't trade them for anything in this world.
Even when I’m tired, even when the burden seems heavy, I still find time to recharge,I find time to relax my mind and my body and those times are highly cherished.
So if am being ask how I recharge as a mother, I would say that I recharge in every moments, while standing, while sitting, while eating, while laying down and watching my child's heartbeat.
I recharge like a well that refills little by little, though not at once but it is enough to keep moving.
Thanks for your time.
