My health my priority

They say, "Health is wealth." It is always important we know what goes on in our bodies. Our health is very important. I know often we focus our attention on work and forget that our health is also something that should be prioritized.

I know in my part of the world, the average man doesn't care too much about their health; when they feels a little change in their body, they immediately become a doctor for themselves without consulting a real professional doctor to tell them what is happening in their system.

They say, "Ignorance is bliss, right?" But the bliss shouldn't be related to our health.

I can remember growing up, my mum never joked about our health. Whenever she noticed something different in our body temperature, she'd ensure to call the doctor. Talking about this particular doctor, well, he is a professional doctor who owned a little shop in our compound, so when the issue gets severe and it's something he can't handle, he'd refer my mum to the clinic.

Growing up with the mindset that health is important, I didn't joke with mine. Funny experience I had.

There is this thing about people from my part of the world that whenever you have a headache, they always refer to it as malaria. Then, when the symptoms persist, they will tag it "typhoid fever", One day I was feeling this severe headache; I took paracetamol, but it didn't work, so I communicated my feelings to a neighbor, and she concluded it was malaria and typhoid after listening to my explanation of the symptoms I was having at the moment.

Ignorant me, I went to the pharmacy for some malaria drugs; immediately, I got home and started my medication. After a few days, I noticed the symptoms were getting worse. Then I called my neighbor and was like, "It seems the drugs aren't working." She paused for a while and stared at me. Then she finally decided to say something and what did she say? "Malaria no dey finish for person body." At that moment, I didn't know what to say.

I carried myself with my two legs, walked to a clinic, and ran some tests when the results came out. I noticed it was something different entirely that was wrong with me. That's what happens when you treat something blindly. After that day, I made up my mind never to act ignorant when it comes to my health, never to allow someone to debate what's wrong with me when I can get the answer to my questions from a professional doctor.

Currently, my health is my number one priority; I take my health very seriously like my life depends on it ."Of course, my life depends on it" because what's life without having sound health? I go for a check-up whenever I notice some changes in my system that are out of the ordinary.

I don't like it whenever my body starts acting different from the regular lively person I've always known; I know life is unpredictable, and we can't tell the next time our body will break down healthwise. But when such a thing happens, the next move to make is to go for medical checkups to ensure our body gets the right medication it deserves.

Most of us always prioritize other things over our health, we can stay more than two years without visiting the hospital which was not supposed to be so.

Yeah. And sometimes we look at the funds and be like "no" that is too expensive.

Sometimes it is necessary to go to the doctor to be treated, although personally it is something that I hate because I have always had bad experiences with the doctors.

Can you share one bad experience you've had with doctors please?

I don't like talking about personal things, that's why I didn't write it ... but the time more recently led me to the doctor for the beating I received, I was bleeding all over my face, wounded and with a wounded/bleeding face ... between emergencies and they made me wait 8 hours to serve me. I was serious, trembling and losing blood, and they didn't care that, because although it was an emergency, as it was a public hospital, they made me wait ... Thus happens in this country. While I was sitting bleeding and waiting for those 8 hours, I saw how people arrived more serious than me, after me, and died before they attended them, because they left them waiting.

The doctor in charge told me that if I wanted rapid attention, then have to pay a private clinic ...

I think this summarizes my bad experience ... that was enough to never want to step on a public hospital or service ...

Wow. You waited for eight hours in such a severe condition. I can't imagine that, but that's not fair, even if its a public hospital. Doctors' sole purpose is to attend to their patients.

I see the reason you don't like doctors, its fair enough.

Health needs to be a priority. If we are sick, it will have many impacts.

Yeah. Our health comes first in everything, and that shouldn't be a choice. It should be a priority

When it comes to my health i don't play around... I will whatever it take to get back on my feet.

I'm glad you don't joke with your health. It is better that way to even build a more healthier life.
