Growing up, I used to be a play-holic, if there is any word like that "so permit me to use the word" often mum would be screaming my name and be like "come to the house, don't you get tired of playing". Then I would pause for a while and be like, "Who gets tired of playing when you don't have anything bothering you?" Well, that is me.
Now to the current me who has grown to be this person I am today, who has been endowed with different responsibilities of making ends meet. And now the only thing on my mind is "who cares about having fun" when you have bills pursuing you every day.
It was a sunny afternoon when my phone beeped; I rushed to check what it was, and behold, it was a message from my friend.
"Tari, we will be going to a games party tonight, so get ready!"
At this moment, I became a little confused and felt like I was being controlled. Deep down, I wanted to call back to tell her about my unavailability, but then the thoughts of her telling me my story stepped in, and I decided to just relax, and when it's time for the game party. I would just tell her how my stomach has been aching since morning.
Every time that passes, I would check the clock as it ticks, waiting patiently for that one call. I stayed glued to my phone, thinking of how I would transform my voice to suit whatever condition I'd be faking. So after a few hours, I heard a knock at the door.
"I'm not expecting anyone," I muttered to myself while walking to get the door.
"Hey, girl! You look homeless, now it's time to get ready," Gesi said.
"Thank you, what are you doing here, and besides, you should have called me before invading my space," I responded with my eyes widened with sadness.
"Call who, please? Okay, so let's start preparing, the fun is about to begin, and you know it's Friday night!" Gesi said excitedly.
Imagined being forced into my own comfort zone, I didn't panic, I just had to go with the flow because at this point, saying "no" isn't the option, the only option that I have right now is to follow her to the game night.
As minutes turned to an hour, we were done with everything, including me, and it was time to head out to the venue. So we booked a ride and before we knew it, "we were there already". On getting to the venue, we noticed the party had already started, and we, on the other hand, are known as the "late comers".
We entered that room, and people were gathered already, with everyone seated while the music played at its loudest. The moment I had my seat, my eyes started doing what they know how to do best, and that is "wander around" looking at the setting of the games.
After a few minutes interacting with the people there, the host finally came, and it was time for the games. She introduced herself and brought out cards first, and guess what? It was time for the first game.
And the first game is called "charade," which was also my first time hearing about that game, and the fun part is the fact that I get to play as well.
Now, what is a charade? Charade is a game where one player acts out a word or phrase after picking a card without speaking, using only gestures, while the team members try to guess what it is.
And guess what? I was picked to represent my team and I get to act like the word that was given but then the not-so-good news is the fact that my team members couldn't guess the word correctly or maybe I wasn't acting the word right, but all the same I was glad that I get to act a word and ended with a drink because losers will have to take a shot.
The night was still young and filled with a lot of games, and not forgetting the treasure hunt game, "Well, I won that one." I found a treasure, and it became my souvenir because I was told to take it home.
I thought playing games and having fun was the reason for the game night, but then I was wrong the moment the host brought out snacks for everyone to have. And that made my night even more fun.
We spent the next few hours laughing and competing in different games, seeing people expressing themselves through that laughter was the most amusing thing that I could ever think of, because they looked like they didn't have worries.
Deep down, I wanted the games night to continue till dawn, but then that wasn't possible, so after having so much fun, we decided to say our goodbyes and head home.
"Now tell me you didn't have fun," Gesi asked
"Hmm, I had little fun," I replied with a wide smile filling my face, thereby causing my cheeks to fold.
"I'm not gonna lie, thank you for dragging me out tonight," I continued.
"Sometimes, having a little fun and playing games is all we need to get away from life struggles for a while". Gesi said, holding my hand.
