What's up plebs!
I have been silently stacking more silver lately.. nothing fancy, the regular junk stuff I can get as close to spot as I can.
This is one of the latest additions to my stack :)
A 1935, 2 Shillings / 1 Florin coin from Ireland!
You know I love animal themed coins so naturally I was happy to score this baby for close to spot. Unfortunately many of the details of the fish have been destroyed by the passage of time but that's what you get for being a cheap bastard like me 😄
The fish is a salmon, possibly a reference to the Salmon of Knowledge (Irish: An Bradán Feasa), a creature in the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology. That..or they just eating salmon. Dunno 😶
Nothing else on this side, other than the denomination (Flóirín 2s)
If we flip the coin we have a Cláirseach, aka the Gaelic harp. Now that's a symbol I am more familiar with...thanks to being an alcoholic a beer aficionado
The Celtic harp is a triangular frame harp traditional to the Celtic nations of northwest Europe. It is known as cláirseach in Irish, clàrsach in Scottish Gaelic, telenn in Breton and telyn in Welsh. In Ireland and Scotland, it was a wire-strung instrument requiring great skill and long practice to play, and was associated with the Gaelic ruling class. It appears on Irish coins, Guinness products, and the coat of arms of the Republic of Ireland, Montserrat, Canada and the United Kingdom source
Not much text here either, other than the minting date and SAORSTÁT ÉIREANN for Irish Free State!
Nothing special on the edge either.
Ok, some more shots
All in all, a simple coin. Just how I like them :D
Oh, almost forgot. It's 11.31 grams of 0.750 purity. Not bad 😁
Ok, this is it for today plebs!
Stack on 🎉
