Money In My Pocket? Checking My Spare Change In Euros

Coins coins coins

So, before Christmas I received two silver coins I bought in auction and I still have to write a post about them because when they arrived, I thought the pictures surely didn't do them any good. They are absolutely stunning in real life, so I was very pleased with the deal I got. Then you know, Christmas preparation happened as well as actual Christmas and we spent the Sundays on the flea market.

On the flea market, I found another coin from my home country Holland, which I bought for sentimental reasons only. I will write about this one as well.

First something else

Although I'd normally say, let's share them according to the first in system, now I'm a bit too excited for what I discovered today. Call me stupid, sleepyhead or whatever but for some reason, I never checked our spare change when receiving coins. For some reason, I never thought that I'd possibly be handed some euro coins that could be worth something more by now. Which I truly think is stupid living at the Spanish coast where plenty of people come from other parts of Europe to spent some time in the winter sun.

The trigger for my search today

I was actually listing some items for sale today, and meanwhile browsing to compare some prizes of items. While I was doing so, I found some coins and from one thing came the other, before I knew it I was browsing through listings with coins in Spain. Djeez, this things surely is addictive!

I bumped on this listing, which honestly, I have not checked to find the actual value, what I did find was a bunch of others for sale for even higher prices, so I guess it's most definitely worth more than the 2 euro value:

When I started writing this post, I didn't have this coin but later I went for groceries and received this one as change, haha. So now I will most definitely search for more information in the next days. Meanwhile, I told my boyfriend

What about 1 euro coins?

He then said what about 1 euro coins? I said surely they will have rare ones too but I don't know, would need to look that up when we have them. He handed me like 7 euro coins to check as well as some other spare change. I first only checked the years and sorted them by country, interesting to see was that I had quite a few coins from Germany 2002 there which could be of value. I also found a few coins from 1999 and 2002 or early 2000's. Not all of them were euros btw, but I decided to not use them but sort them by value and year and go through them one by one, maybe a few every day.

From the same seller:

I fully understand that this can be highly misleading and that someone can ask crazy prices and in the end it's worth what the fool pays for it, but at least this seller has 100% satisfaction rate with 205 sales. That's not too bad, I guess.

And then I found the same coin on the local market place for 500 euros, ok 200 less than on Ebay but they seller had a screenshot of an article. I found the article after some digging, which you can see here:

Both coming from this article

I hope I have something on my hands here. What do you think? Either way, this whole thing got me super excited today, even more than wandering on the flea markets the past three times we went there.

If you have tips, good websites where I can easily rule out the "bad" ones or spot the "good" ones with trustworthy information, please let me know because today I browsed on so many sites, and bookmarked so many that I'm sure I will have to do more digging to make sure I'm reading trustworthy info. If any of the #silvergoldstackers, maybe you @goldrooster? here has a tip, I would appreciate any help.

After I decided to call it a day (I got sucked in so badly lol) I took out all my 1 oz silver coins to admire them and will write about my last 2 silver rounds next because they are just too pretty to be ignored! The spare change search will have to wait until after that one is done.

Have a good weekend!

With Euros I'm really not sure of any sites that help you find pricing info. The main thing I do with change is first look for coins in uncirculated condition, basically straight from the mint. They may or may not go up in value, but not a bad bet to hang onto. Error coins are some of the best to collect, when the coin has a defect from the minting process. Those have been some of the best finds I've come across since most are caught by the mint before release. Another thing to look at is how many were made, some years mints have problems and can't produce as many of a particular coin, they will tend to be more expensive.

I wish I knew more about collecting Euros, here in the US you just don't see that many.

Thanks for the tips.. I already ruled out some of the coins and also registered on numista as I did not do that yet. I still have a few possible gems, but honestly at this point, I'm first trying to gather resources and bookmark them so I can easily rule out things as well.

It's a fun journey..

It is a lot of fun! Most of my European coins are prior to the EU so I don't have much experience with the Euro from a collecting standpoint, just the spending stand point!
!lol

I told my doctor that I broke my arm in two places.
He told me to stop going to those places.

LOL that was a funny one :)
Well, it goes the same for me, but it seems I will learn a bit more about those coins soon and definitely go through all the spare chance from now on. Especially as we live at the coast and lots of tourists are here (even now) so the chance of finding something form outside of Spain is bigger here than in-land I guess.

I'm trying to find where I can see the new releases for 2024, but it seems I'm overloaded with coin tabs lol. Time to write a post instead :)

How are you doing so far this weekend?

I had a huge headache today but it seems vanished now, thankfully. Just in time to have a relaxed evening haha.

!PIMP

I'm glad it got better! My hip decided to flare up on me last night, damn COVID vaccine. The gift that keeps on giving years after the vaccination... I hope you have a nice evening and that your little one is feeling better!

Oh man, you keep getting all that shit from the vax, I feel so bad for you. One thing is over and the next thing is lined up :(
I wish it would end with this one, and that all the side effects would vanish for you.. and everyone else dealing with them, it's horrible!
Big hug!

The little one is happy, just still coughing, but in this current state I would send her off to school if it weren't holidays. but I will see how it goes next week. Not keen on going to the doc again, but I have the feeling it's best if I will in a few days after things go back to normal..

Take it easy! !LUVE !BBH

Thanks for the hug! Ibuprofen is keeping it at bay for the moment, fingers crossed.... I'm glad she's a little better. How's your back?

I'm hoping you will be able to end the year without any of this crap, and start over fresh. What a shit show all these vax things :(

My back was good today thankfully, but as with you, things keep taking turns lol. One day the back is shit, the other day I get these huge headaches. This time it's hormonal though, same shit most months.

Going to get rid of all these spare change coins on my desk now to get some order and get back to that in a few days. Before you know it you're down the rabbit hole browsing endlessly for info, lol. You probably know the drill :)

Have a good weekend <3

Oh, looking for modern rarities? I did that before finding some very low minted 1983 25 Cents coin in very light circulated condition to a dealer for $7 that I used to buy my lunch. There are some modern rarities floating around in public, you just need to be a bit lucky to find one. You might buy a roll or two of coins from your bank, as long as they don't charge much for them. Just open them up and look through.

It was not that I went looking for them really, I just realized I may need to at least look what I receive for spare change and I think it's been interesting so far. At least I've enjoyed the search so far. Today I'm trying to find an easy way to rule out the ones that are too common probably as I don't want to keep all change in a box but also spent it when it's not of more value. The bank roll I will remember, thank you :)

That's great that you were able to buy lunch from bringing these coins to that dealer! I think I will at least try to educate myself a bit more to know which ones are not that common and see if I can either stash them until trying to sell them in a badge or maybe offer them as singles. It's not the time yet though, need to make sure I don't make an expensive mistake lol.

The journey is fun though, and that's worth a lot too! Maybe I can find some decent gems that I can sell to then put into 1 oz silver rounds I love.
