Hi dear Hive community,
In late Autumn last year we finally made it to another mountain top, that we were having on our list. It’s not really a high mountain, but the way up there and the view make it appear so. The hill is located in Soca Valley, just above one of the tree local small town Kobarid. It’s called Krasji vrh.
The road first starts very easy and is wide, so even cars can go there. It will lead you to a mountain pasture Zaprikraj, where they make delicious cow cheese and other milk products. In winter time, area looks pretty abandoned and the nature is resting.
We contiscrd through forest path, which was the most beautiful part of the whole way. There are so many trees and everywhere are big piles of fallen leaves. All you can hear is your footsteps making a lot of sound while walking. There is hidden one wooden hut, which belongs to the local hunters. The sun was already high on the sky and it became pleasantly warm. There were table and benches, on the edge was even one self made swing for children. Of course we enjoyed it as well.
After the hut comes again a very different area, walk on the grass field with already nice view on the valley. Only later we realised that you can take a circular way to the top, and the way that we took for going up, is in reality prefered way to descent. We will tell you later how the other way looked like.
On the mountain top there were many people. We were surprised and happy to meet even some friends that we know. After short break we brought up our cooking equipment and food and started preparing lunch. We think this is a much nicer experience than eating a sandwich or some energy bars. This time we had potatoes cooked and fried on herb butter with a nice stakes. Believe me when I say that many people came to check from where the nice restaurant smell is coming from.
The way down was harsh with many rocks and many pine trees. You really needed to be careful where you step. Three times we came to the dead end due to much pine trees growing everywhere, but in the end we made it. We stopped and explore one cave, buildings, walls and tunnels on certain area, where was an important strategic point in a world wars I and II. It’s fascinating how they found and brought all the needed stuff up here.
The whole walk lasts around 3 and a half hours for the ascend and half on that time for descent. Since we take many breaks on the way and we don’t hurry, for us it took maybe two times more. Slow and steady, and the goal is almost there.
Thank you for reading.
Wish you a nice day!
