This week's Battlemage Secrets is all about poison. Noxious Fumes is a rule set that gives poison status to all monsters at the start of the match.
This is one of the more common rule sets that I encounter in whatever league I'm in. And my go-to splinter when Noxious Fumes comes up is the Death splinter.
I specifically choose Thaddius Brood whenever possible. Since all units are affected by poison and are slowly taking damage, the tactic I utilize is to debuff my opponent's monster in order to make the battle more favorable to me. Thaddius Brood fits perfectly for this strategy as it decreases the enemy's health by one point as well as their magic attack.
The Death splinter does not specialize in healing but they can gain armor to increase their defensive capabilities. Ravenhood Warden is a good addition to my lineup. Weirding Warrior on the other hand destroys the armor, making the enemy monsters more susceptible to physical attacks early on.
Monsters like Harklaw is also a good choice since it has immunity to poison as well as strong defense against melee attacks. Venator Kinjo on the other hand can slow down the enemies as well as amplify the thorn damage of the tank.
Finally we have one of the most used tanks for the Death splinter, Cursed Windeku. Together with its healing and amplified thorn damage, it's a strong wall that the enemies would have a hard time taking down.
Shared Battle
The shared battle today is a 30-mana match with Noxious Fumes, Equalizer, and Maneuver rule sets. You can check the full battle here.
This battle is interesting since the Equalizer gives all units a lot of health. The reference monster is my Cursed Windeku with 11 health. Despite having Noxious Fumes, this will make for a longer match.
And despite boasting that Cursed Windeku is a competent tank, it did not make it past the first round during the initial exchanges of attack. I am now at a disadvantage in the number of monsters but thanks to Maneuvers, Harklaw can now attack in the second position, supporting Shadow Snitch.
I've lost Shadow Snitch during the second round and I am now down two four monsters. THe poison damage also took its toll and Weirding Warrior is in critical condition.
I am down to my last two monsters against four on my opponent's side. But what's interesting is that three of those enemy monsters were already one poison damage away from death which will lead to a one-on-one between Revealer and my Venator Kinjo.
The battle culminated into a fun little showdown with Revealer having the advantage of magic attack while Kinjo risks his melee attack being evaded. But Venator Kinjo finally defeats Revealer with one health to spare. The battle ends at round 16.
