ADDICTIONS

INTRODUCTION:

Hi everyone, I am by name Outstanding Peter and I am delighted to make my first post on this platform officially.

As stated above, I’d like to discuss about Addictions.

Addictions are excessive healthy and(or) unhealthy obsession, affinity, love or desire for something (either a character or lifestyle). It could be positive or negative. It is a state of being uncontrollably influenced by thoughts, emotions, character that’s been built up over time by virtue of continuity, etc.

A few things about this write up might interest you as we go on. Some of the things you’d get to know is the duality nature of addiction. The first is one not so pronounced as a result of the prevalent happenings and a lot more other factor. However, we’d delve into it properly in this study and help to improve our knowledge on these matters as we progress. So, stay tuned and read to the end.

Nature of Addictions

As stated earlier in the introduction, addiction takes on a dual nature. These nature or forms of addiction can be described as both Positive and Negative forms of addiction.

1.    POSITIVE ADDICTION:

Surprised about this right! (smiles), I thought same too (smiles). The more surprising thing is how a lot of persons subconsciously are so much obsessed with positivity; by that, I mean all things morally right, godly and natural as the case may be. However, they do not see it from the stand point of being an addiction. They believe it’s just something natural for all to possess, I mean, why shouldn’t anyone be obsessed with success, right?

However, for some reasons, I believe strongly that this is a result of wrong modeling and (or) orientation over time. Many persons would rather prioritize and amplify negative traits or deeds in people around compared the value they place on positivity in the same light and regard; they rather perceive it to be normal and something to be possessed by a human and so, they do not talk about it all the time.

This however, is a wrong and very bad mindset. While it is Ok to normalize positivity, it’s also very much OK to appreciate it both publicly and in private, so much that it is prioritized and made a conscious opinion of the people. I believe that if this is done effectively, then overtime, a new and positive mindset about the above discussed would be created in the hearts and minds of people.

Some of the positive addictions includes, but are not restricted to:

a.     Success: The drive to be successful in life and as a matter of fact, in everything that one does could be an addiction. It doesn’t have to be unhealthy. Everyone loves to be successful and would do almost any and everything (positively now) to become that person they’ve dreamt of. The drive to stay up late at night, burn the night candles, read long, make professional presentations, and others are pointers that they are slaves to and therefore, addicted to SUCCESS, never to be associated with failure in any of its forms.

b.    Reading: A lot of persons have love or an affinity for reading. It’s now become an insatiable desire to learn, grow and become via reading of books, contents, bill boards, posters, newspapers, materials, notes, magazines, news headlines, etc. They literally cannot survive without glancing through a piece of work per second, minute, hour or as the day goes by. They have overtime, developed a habit of reading at least a book at a time, two-to-three books in a month. This is healthy and a proper addiction to be cultivated by everyone.

c.     Studying: This is a rather deeper level to reading. It’s putting your heart, mind and soul into making the most out of your reading. It’s at this point that reading begins to profit even more, the reader. Everyone that studies, understands details.

d.    Praying: Prayers can also be an addiction. For intercessors, their lives are literally given to prayers, drawing inference from the Bible that says “…. Men ought always to pray and not to faint.” For this cause, men have given themselves to prayer as a lifestyle and are bound to it so much that they almost would feel death if they don’t pray. This by far also, is a positive addiction. They stand in the gap for their friends, families, loved ones, etc. and ensure that the counsel of God stands over and upon their lives.

e.     Sporting: Sporting as well, is an addiction. So many persons have made it their life long duty to be very proficient and be the best in their sporting journey. This mandates that they exercise every day of their lives, listen to sport news, watch and engage in games, follow highlights, etc. They are addicted to sporting and this is positive.

Effects of Positive Addictions

They are, but not limited to:

i.      Goodly results

ii.    Positive modeling

iii.  A secured knowledgeable future for the generations yet unborn

iv.  Better families

v.    A developed society

vi.  A developed nation at large by extension.

In conclusion, these and a lot more, are a part of positive addictions. You could go ahead and make a list of other positive addictions and also give yourself to cultivating them if you haven’t started yet. Positive addictions are as well attractive and contagious over time if it is properly modelled.

I believe this article has been impactful and educative so far in enlightening you of the possibilities of positive addictions.

Subsequently, a post would be made stating and detailing the other form of addiction, being the Negative form of addiction. In the meantime, stay tuned to hear from me.

Stay helped and blessed.

Bye for now.

Peter Outstanding.

As a newbie, I am ready to learn, connect and explore more. Thank you for reading.
