ByBit lost 1.4 billion in unprecedented cyber attack

Over 401000 ETH got stolen from ByBit exchange on February 21st in an unbelievable unprecedented attack.

The hackers managed to clone the interface of a multi signature cold wallet. They got everyone to sign what was supposed to be a routine action, but in reality changed the rules for the cold wallet. Which gave an open road to the hackers to run away with 1.4 billion dollars in Ethereum. And the weird part is, nobody had a clue. It took hours before someone noticed.

ByBit can cover the loss, so wallet holders’ funds are safe. But it is still a major blow for the exchange and for the crypto market in general…
