It's incredibly lucky you were able to spot the chicks amidst that swamp. I hope those foxes and jackals don't harm the chicks. It's good that the grass has grown to try and hide them. Thank you so much for showing us the birds' struggle for survival here.

I try and see them every year. I used to live in Arizona where they would migrate over there to escape the winter. We would see thousands of them in a sulfur spring area in Wilcox. Now that I live in Illinois I can see them raising their young.
