BEING VEGAN

in Hive Learners5 months ago (edited)

What we do in life, is largely dependent on the morals, and values, imbibed in us from our parents.

The ability to make choices and live by the choice we made, is greatly determined by our past experiences. Good or bad, it has a way of shaping our personality. Either giving a personality disorder, or helping to attain a top notch, mental health.

Some people are born intl a vegan home, thus, they become vegans themselves. Some choose to become vegans, with he excuse of preserving the lives of animals. Welp, just so you know, plants are equally living things, so, it will make a lot of sense to preserve the lives of plants too. Don't you think?

I was not born to a vegetarian home, and I don't have any relatives that is a vegan.
My family eat vegetables, and we also eat meat. Sometimes, we combine both in one meal.

I didn't care what we ate, vegetable or meet, I just want my stomach filled. thats all
When I was a kid, I always cry every time I see my parents killing a chicken. That will not stop me from eating it though.

Throughout my life time on earth, thoughts of being a vegan has never crossed my mind. I always go with what the Bible say; Arise, kill and eat.

I don't know why, but, the thought of being a vegan, has never crossed my mind, maybe it's probably because of my love for meat, or something. On the other hand, I equally love to eat vegetables, once in a while. Maybe once or two times a week, I get some vegetables from the market, and cook it like that.

I can never try to be a vegan. Live completely without meet or animal products, is something I can't bring myself to try. I love meat, I love eggs, I love cheese and all these food. Yes, inarguably, being vegan comes with many health benefits, but, I'm not just in for it. I can't do it.

I can only, hardly, be a vegan, if I have a medical condition that contraindicates meat and other animal products. Except that, I am good with eating what I eat.

I can actually try being vegan for just one meal, that is during dinner. And I will make sure I sleep immediately, to avoid being hungry later in the night. I can't last 3 hours when I eat vegetables for dinner, because I will become hungry again, and my appetite will want to eat a spicy and proteinous food.

Comparing being vegan and eating meat, I will say that, the health benefits of both type of meal, is dependent on the individual. For obsessed people, being vegan can be very helpful to control their weight. It will help them with their diet control, and ultimately, loss weight with time.

I would not recommend vegetarianism to a person that is malnourished, because they need the nutrients from animals to survive

I agree with you, I believe that everything should be done in a fair measure, having a balance, everything in excess ends up being bad for us.

Your publication is very well written, I liked it because of how light it is.

There should be balance in everything we do.

I get the reason when you say you can never try to be a vegan because you love your meat, egg and cheese more than someone's life. So yes, veganism isn't for you. We can't (or won't) do what we not desire for. Although similar and better taste & delicacies can easily be prepared entirely from plants-based ingredients, we won't like to make an effort in that direction. Because efforts also accompany our wants and desires.

Btw, I don't agree with you when it comes to recommendations for a malnourished. I'd never recommend a non-vegetarian diet to a malnourished person because I know that they don't "need" nutrients from animals to survive.

i did not say "more than someone's life."
come to think of it, vegetarians eat plants because animals are living things yeah? they love animals and want to preserve their life yeah? what if i tell you that plants are also living things?
read: https://blogs.deakin.edu.au/sci-enviro-ed/wp-content/uploads/sites/40/2014/04/plants.pdf

so, why kill the poor plants for food? when you cut the plants from the source of their life, why don't you feel any form of guilt or something? is it becase they dont cry? or shout? why not preserve plants life too? or do you love eating eating plants more than you care about their value to nature?

welp, yes, there are nutrients in plants, but how much plant do you want to "kill" before you get a person properly nourished?

  1. I see. I might have presumed it then. Sorry about it.
  2. The question you have raised is quite common. In fact, I had published a series of blogs about 6-7 years back. I'll link you if I can find them (however, I ain't quite active in this ecosystem now and don't know of available tools to search old blogs). But you can also search Google or YT to find the reasoning along with elaborate reports to support it. Ofc I did cover it from various perspectives. But to answer you in short, the farmed animals consume a lot more plants than what a vegan diet would need. Consuming energy from primary source is much more efficient than deriving it from a secondary source, lower down the food chain. E.g. a rough (or hypothetical) data is like 50kg of plant consumption will produce only one kg of beef. So by eating animals, we kill more plants than what we would if we eat them directly. Also, produce like fruits & leafy greens need not kill plants altogether. And most grain crops have an annual lifecycle anyways.

The goal is to minimise the killing as much as we can. It doesn't imply plants ain't living entities and those lives shouldn't be respected.

Btw, I haven't yet read the article you linked here but would like to. In fact, I've also published a blog post on this topic (around the same time like 6-7 yrs back) where I argued that plants do feel pain. But even this doesn't justify animal farming tbh.
Hope you can find a lot of resources on these topics if you're really interested to know.
ATB!

The type of food we eat is most influenced by the environment around us. If you are born in a vegetarian family and people around you also eat vegetarian food, then it is obvious that you eat vegetarian food since childhood. I have seen many people who were non-vegetarians earlier due to their surroundings, but when they changed their environment and got a new environment where there were more vegetarians, they changed their eating habits. However, the most important thing is to eat a balanced diet which is digested well in our body and we do not get any disease.

you mentioned facts here. the environment we stay in, has a major influence in our lifestyle.

However, the most important thing is to eat a balanced diet which is digested well in our body and we do not get any disease.

this is the most important thing in life. We should eat healthy, without being infected by the food we eat.

You cry when your parents kill chicken yet you'll be the one to eat the lion's share 🤣.
Being a vegan is good if one can actually stick to it, but for men, I doubt so.

No use chicken play with me ooo... lol. i love it sooo much

Our lifestyle and choices are usually affected a great deal by the environment we came from and our beliefs.

Honestly, veganism is a no- go area for me abeg. I will always prefer enjoying meats, fish, eggs to eating just vegetables. Not that I don't like veggies but having to stick to it alone without a touch of these yummies of mine, seems dreadful. As much as I cherish the nutrients that comes from it, there is no way ❌ I'm going to forfeit animal products. I would rather have both.
