No one can ever ascertain whether a commodity will be durable at the point of purchase, so it just a 50/50 chance when someone buys a commodity. One way or the other, we all must have bought somethings we enjoyed using and want that particular thing to last for a longer time while on the other hand, we must have bought somethings we regretted about and count it as a waste of money.
Well no one is perfect, so I've been in both situations before. I've purchased some commodities that I enjoyed using them and they serve there purpose while some are worthless that I don't even know the reason I made the decision to buy such an item.
My bad purchase
I saw an advert on a neighbor's phone concerning a mobile phone video amplifier which is an eye-protecting mobile phone bracket that can enlarge the screen of the mobile phone. The advert was lovely, I love how bright the amplifier magnified the phone screen in the advert, I immediately fell in love with it. So I thought within myself that I will buy it so that I will be using it to watch movies most especially K-drama.
I inquired from her and she told me her cousin has the amplifier in her shop at the rate of two thousand naira, it was very cheap so I ordered for it and told my neighbor to help me keep it with her till I travel back home from work.
The first time I tested it, I didn't like it at all. Though the amplifier magnified my phone, but it wasn't as sharp and bright as what I saw in the advert. I lost interest the first day I used it and I haven't used it till this moment. I counted it as a waste of money and I regretted the purchase.
Something that I bought that I enjoyed
Last year April, during the holiday before school resumes for the new term in May, I went to the market to buy some of the things I needed to take along with me to my workplace. So part of what I needed was a rechargeable lamp because of unstable electricity, though I had a lamp before (a very common type here in Nigeria) which I bought from hawkers, but it wasn't that okay so I needed a replacement.
I went to a particular shop at the market, the man sells electronics stuffs so I asked for a portable lamp that I can easily put in a small bag and the man gave me the exact lamp that I had before, the only difference is the colour. I insisted that he should give me another type because the one I had previously didn't last at all.
The price he also gave me was higher than the previous one I've bought and I told him I'm not buying. This man insisted that he was damn sure that my previous purchase was a fake lamp, he gave me the assurance that the lamp I will buy from him will serve me and that he sells original stuffs. I thought he was just cajoling me in order to buy the lamp, but on the long run I later bought the lamp and left his shop.
I purchased the lamp with the plan to try it and see how it will last. I charged it and started using it; for the past 9 months it has been serving me. I was amazed at its durability, once I charged it, it lightened up my room and lasted longer than I ever imagined. Sometimes I even forget to turn it off when there isn't power supply at night. I'm enjoying my lamp till date and I'm very happy with my purchase.
Lesson learned
I've learnt that I won't ask anyone to help me purchase anything again without me been there to test it. Had it been I was around and went to purchase the mobile phone amplifier by myself, I will definitely test it at that shop and decide whether to buy it or not.
