I like capturing images of ants, as the ones I encounter are small, move quickly and can also be unpredictable. They create a great challenge for me as a photographer to follow and get good images of, it can take many attempts to get them in focus.
I think I also have a bit of a guilty conscience, as when I was a kid, my dad would like to sun tan on our back patio but would often have to get up and start squishing them with his sandals to avoid having to many of them crawl around him as he tried to relax. So, trying to be a good kid, I would go out and help him deal with the ants.
As an adult, though, I decided being a photographer, I didn't want to harm anything, even the tiniest creatures, If I could help it. So now I would rather learn more about these tiny crawling bugs and admire them as they do the work for their colonies.
