I can't really remember what it was I replied but just like you said it's possible he wasn't in the mood for plays.

Some clients with their bloated ego. Granted I need his patronage but won't accept the egocentric attitude from him. He thinks he was doing me a favor by patronizing us without knowing that it was the other way round.
