Today I want to share with you a Sunday stroll that turned out to be very entertaining and rewarding: a visit to the fair that takes place every weekend next to La Normal Park, a place that, unexpectedly, connected me with the history and beauty of my city.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un paseo dominical que resultó muy entretenido y enriquecedor: una visita a la feria que se celebra cada fin de semana junto al Parque La Normal, un lugar que, inesperadamente, me conectó con la historia y la belleza de mi ciudad.
This Sunday, my husband, my aunt, who was visiting my house, and I decided to venture out to explore this fair, which, until now, had been unknown to me. And what a pleasant surprise I got! The fair was very well stocked, with a large quantity and variety of fresh, quality products. There were various items, clothing, condiments, prepared foods, flowers, frozen products, spices, and vegetables. We wandered around the different stands, allowing ourselves to be tempted by the meat and vegetable products and the deals that were loudly advertised.
Este domingo, mi esposo, mi tía, que estaba de visita en casa, y yo decidimos aventurarnos a explorar esta feria, que hasta entonces desconocía. ¡Y qué grata sorpresa me llevé! La feria estaba repleta de productos frescos y de calidad, con una gran cantidad y variedad. Había artículos diversos: ropa, condimentos, comidas preparadas, flores, productos congelados, especias y verduras. Recorrimos los puestos, dejándonos tentar por los productos cárnicos y vegetales y las ofertas que anunciaban a bombo y platillo.
I love these open-air markets, where you can breathe in the scent of the earth and appreciate the freshness of the produce just arriving from the fields. We were able to buy a wide variety of ingredients for our dishes: juicy tomatoes, crunchy carrots, peppers, and, of course, a sprig of parsley—essential for adding a special touch to my sauces!
Me encantan estos mercados al aire libre, donde se respira el aroma de la tierra y se aprecia la frescura de los productos recién llegados del campo. Pudimos comprar una gran variedad de ingredientes para nuestros platos: tomates jugosos, zanahorias crujientes, pimientos y, por supuesto, una ramita de perejil, ¡imprescindible para darle un toque especial a mis salsas!
But the fair wasn't the only surprise this Sunday. I loved La Normal Park, the green space where the fair is held. It's a large and beautiful park, with lush vegetation and ample space to enjoy nature. Towering trees cast their shade over the surroundings, creating a cool and relaxing atmosphere.
Pero la feria no fue la única sorpresa de este domingo. Me encantó el Parque La Normal, el espacio verde donde se celebra la feria. Es un parque grande y hermoso, con exuberante vegetación y amplios espacios para disfrutar de la naturaleza. Árboles imponentes proyectan su sombra sobre el entorno, creando un ambiente fresco y relajante.
Located in the municipality of Cerro, on Amenidad Street, this park is a place where life unfolds in all its fullness. Grandparents chat animatedly, and many people rest in the shade, while others stroll in all directions. In the center, a large plaza with three flowerbeds becomes a play and fun space for children, who ride their bikes and run freely.
Ubicado en el municipio de Cerro, en la calle Amenidad, este parque es un lugar donde la vida se despliega en toda su plenitud. Los abuelos conversan animadamente, muchos descansan a la sombra, mientras otros pasean en todas direcciones. En el centro, una gran plaza con tres parterres se convierte en un espacio de juego y diversión para los niños, que montan en bicicleta y corren libremente.
In one corner of the park, on a hill, stands a statue of the Vietnamese martyr Nguyen Van Troi, whose name also bears the nearby school. This school was formerly called La Normal, where many teachers graduated, hence the name of the park. Although the school no longer bears that name, the park has retained its original name, passed down from generation to generation.
En un rincón del parque, sobre una colina, se alza una estatua del mártir vietnamita Nguyen Van Troi, cuyo nombre también lleva la escuela cercana. Esta escuela se llamaba antiguamente La Normal, donde se graduaron muchos maestros, de ahí el nombre del parque. At this market, I was inspired to buy a little bit of everything, but what I liked most were the vegetables. After enjoying the shopping, we decided to sit in the park to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. To please my aunt, who loves malt, we had some very cold ones, savoring the moment, enjoying the shade of the trees, and being grateful for the company and the good weather.
En este mercado, me animé a comprar un poco de todo, pero lo que más me gustó fueron las verduras. Después de disfrutar de las compras, decidimos sentarnos en el parque a relajarnos y disfrutar del ambiente. Para complacer a mi tía, a quien le encanta la malta, tomamos unas muy frías, saboreando el momento, disfrutando de la sombra de los árboles y agradeciendo la compañía y el buen tiempo.
This fair was a very rewarding experience; I think I'll become a regular! I discovered a space full of life, color, and flavor, where nature and history come together to create a beautiful atmosphere. I recommend everyone visit this corner of Havana!
